Sigh. Well that kind of sucks.
Far Cry 5's solution to any problem -> just remove that element.
One section of the community cries "we hate climbing towers" - they take out towers. Another wails "Drug side quests are weird and stupid" - take out mystical vision quests and fantastical themes. Still others moan "we don't like hunting it's borrrring. And making a wallet from 5 elephant hides is dumb." -> they take out hunting.
So we can play this game OUR WAY... just as long as our way means following blue arrows from one outpost to the next.
I'm really worried about any meaningful depth in this version of the series.
* 3 Biomes (farm lands, forests and mutter mutter I forgot what I was talking about so I fail to describe the third biome - good job executive producer!) * No weather systems shown * Several reduced hunting and crafting * No fantastical elements shown - replaced by "silly" quests (drugged animals, crazed turkeys, crop circles, *maybe* bigfoot if they don't make it goofy and over the top) * Removed minimap and doubled down on immersion breaking HUD elements. Unknown the level of customization to reduce or remove these eyesores. * Lackluster skill system. * Increased melee weapons, but far fewer interesting take down animations... actually MOST of the animations shown have been reduced or removed (no skinning / looting shown at all). No new takedowns and no vehicle takedowns shown or discussed. * No information on the map editor (other than "yes there will be a map editor") and NO confirmation on whether maps are solo, coop, multiplayer or a combination or heck if there is even multiplayer at all. * Less than 2 months from release.
What? Me worry? Nahhh What could possibly go wrong with Far Cry 5...

I simply don't know what to make of these apparent developer decisions, given the game story itself simply makes no sense whatsoever.
Oh how I'd be stroked if they'd go back to what made FC2 (and FC3 - thanks to modding) so enjoyable (game play decisions in the hands of the player, a game-world fast travel system, etc), improve on it (flexibility as to weapon loadouts for example, as well as some of the features introduced in FC3), add some optional hand-holding features for the kids of course, AND come up with a game story that would not be so downright silly.
The stuff currently being shown on UT is downright depressing ..., sigh ...

This is the the new trend in recent ubi titles.. They decided that their games should focus on "more fun" but imo just clueless fun and not from a enjoyable gameplay perspective. Story and gameplay have to make compromise for such fun, no doubt and I don't like it.

Number one thing mentioned over and over again by fans and reviewers alike over the last 6 years is bring back the hand held map from Far Cry 2. Practically NO ONE disagrees that was a cool addition. Lots of people didn't like malaria, broken weapons, respawning checkpoints, etc but everyone enjoyed the in game map. We are now on the FIFTH major release of this series since Far Cry 2. Five games have gone by and not once did any development team even attempt to add an optional in game map or mimic that element in any way, shape or form. Not even PRIMAL which is set in the stone age and has no reason to include an electronic world map made any attempt to to examine this game play element. The simple fact is clearly these development teams never really look back at the series as a whole and what fans and reviewers liked. They just address whatever punch list management comes up with created from large scale complaints from the last game (and they usually address these "problems" in terrible ways such as simply removing the offending gameplay element whole cloth instead of trying to retool or revamp*). * I'm giving early credit (I shouldn't until I play the game, but...) to the FC5 team for addressing the minimap by replacing with a compass and retooling towers as bunker puzzles that go down instead of up. At least in those two situations they made an attempt to rework a gameplay element though I see no reason they simply can't make the HUD extremely customizable. Have those HUD elements in the players discretion to use or turn off. I feel strongly that after both Tom Clancy games and the last Far Cry release and now the direction I'm seeing this release that the management driving these products is completely disconnected with their fan base. Or for financial reasons they simply don't care. Or both. The result is we get shit like Narco Road

The solution? Game World: Ubi Script: Game of Thrones Team Game play Execution/Esthetic: Codemasters (Armed Assault Devs) Result? Oh ****!!!! Turning YOUR neighborhood into a WAR ZONE in 2018! Yea; but does it have a zombie mode? I know many enjoy the crafting, XP earning, and skills tree RPG stuff..................there's certainly nothing wrong with it. What really baffles me is why game devs don't put more/any effort into incorporating those elements into their games in a less contrived manner, that's organic to the game setting plot. Acquiring resources you actually need (food, meds, med facilities, building supplies for improved bases, skilled NPCs to build the bases/defenses, trash/garbage removal, Specialized vehicles/armor, fuel sources, transportation assets, com gear, specialist NPC techs [depending on the game/word] spare parts pipeline etc etc etc). Learning new skills via multiple missions with mentor/teacher NPCs. MEH!! what do I know! Just rub some magic herbs on your *** and VOILA!!!! Your gun/bow/knife shoots/stabs around corners!
