I'm looking for a mod that removes or seriously impairs the M79 grenade launcher. That weapon, combined with a buzzer, just makes the game too easy, along with all the other "easy" aspects of the game. I don't have the willpower to simply "not use it" if it is available in the game.
The Enhanced Nightmare mod does it but it might be more mods than I'm looking for.
If there is just a file I can tweak or something simple I can do myself that would be awesome. I'm not a game modder but I work in IT, I can handle some complicated tweaking if necessary.
Thanks for any thoughts!

What do you want to do with it?
Not be able to purchase it? Not be able to use it one handed? Make the ammo ridiculously expensive or hard to get?
(Don't worry there are quite a few of us that agree with you about that damn thing... and it's coming back in FC5 so... helicopters + M79 easy mode incoming)

I always hated the outpost and encounters, outpost just have 8 guards and 2 waves that you can destroy with 2 or 3 grenade lauchers and you have to travel 1km to next, and encounters are 2 or 3 guys arounds...WHY THE HELL THEY GIVE YOU A LOT OF WEAPONS AND AMMO IF YOU WONT GOING TO USE IT! They should do it like GRW or SGW3 where you have a lot of enemies and encounters and you can spend all the ammo you want.

I would be happy with any number of limitations... I wouldn't mind it being completely gone, but I think the best way to deal with it is only allow 3 rounds (like in FC2). If it had only 3 rounds then it would be acceptable as a single-handed weapon on the buzzer.

Never used the grenade launcher or the buzzer to capture an outpost. Not a question of willpower on my part, just thought it would be way too easy so did not want to use them.

If it had only 3 rounds then it would be acceptable as a single-handed weapon on the buzzer. So 3 rounds of maximum ammo then? That should be relatively easy to fix. Hmmm the only other issue I see is the other other grenade launchers share the same ammo. So if you limit max GL ammo to 3 then for example you could only have 3 max rounds for the automatic grenade launcher (GL-A87?) and the other one (GL-94?). They all share the same ammo pool and there's no easy way to add new ammo types... unless you want it to fire mines or hand grenades LOL (actually I'm kidding as those are considered a throwable gadget and not actually ammo so I'm not even sure you could have a "mine chucker"... interesting idea tho! hmmm) I might be able to make it utilize rocket (aka RPG) rounds which you carry a vastly smaller amount of. It wouldn't actually fire the rockets just deplete from that pool. I think you can only carry like a max of 6 or 7 RPGs and that's if you have all your gear maxed out. Those rounds are a little harder to come by, but in vanilla Far Cry you pretty much never run out of ammo to be honest. It's been a while since I played Far Cry 2 (years! Gods I miss that game), but I think you could actually get up to 5 rounds for the M-79 if you maxed it out. Thoughts? Ideas? It's also easy to simply make it not one handed, remove it from the pistol slot or make it impossible to get in the shop (meaning the only place you could find it is the fishing quest and where ever else it might be in the open world... I can't think of any other places I've seen it...) Even if you picked it up though once you dropped it you would not be able to re-equip it from the store/sherpa/weapons locker.

I believe the game is ok like it is, the problem is the amount of enemies is too low, and the secondary missions should be like primary missions, that would fix the problem because that way you have an excuse to spend ammo. Far Cry 3 and 4 looks like a disposable game.

I wouldn't want changes to the M79 to affect the other launchers ammo load, but your idea of having the M79 draw from the RPG ammo pool sounds good. Making it 2-handed or removing it from the shop would work too. Maybe make the ammo literally 100x more expensive....
I was expecting to find an existing mod, I didn't know you would make one specifically for this reason, but, that is AWESOME, if you can and do! I also think eliminating fast travel, alone, would be a huge improvement. With that, the game would be so much harder it wouldn't be so easy to use the M79/Buzzer combo all the time.
I'm new to FC. I got FC2 a few weeks ago and beat it on infamous, loved it!!! Got FC3 and beat it on it's hardest settings way too easily. Got FC4, I'm at 49% through the campaign on hard settings, with all HUD off, and I find it to be much improved over FC3, but still too easy.

I don't mind making small adjustments for folks when I have time. Unfortunately Far Cry only really allows one "mod" at a time as it doesn't support mods and we have to put changes in the path_hd.dat so compiling mods together is a bit of a chore involving unpacking, moving files around and repacking. I'll see what I can put together for you on the M-79 and no fast travel

I have hope that Far Cry 5 will support multi-mod since ubisoft used multi-patch feature introduced in one of the Watch_Dogs 2 updates, so that mods can be its own individual file.

General info for simply the knowledge base - the M-79 is found in-game via quests only - the "fishing" Fashion Week one and those convoy escort quests from selected towers. As for vanilla FC3 being too easy -- look at Ziggy's hardcore mod for a different level challenge romping thru the Rook Islands, if not already done so. www.nexusmods.com/farcry3/mods/63/?

I'll check out that FC3 mod. If it was much harder it would be a good game. I like the hang-gliders in 3. In FC4 the gliders are pointless next to the buzzer.
Lol, and the story in FC3 is laughable!...except for Michael Mando as Vaas. He's great!

Agreed regarding the gliders in 3. Not only pointless in 4 (due to the buzzer being available), but also Ubisoft messed big time in the reversing the controls and the handling. They really dropped the ball there. I never play any Far Cry game for the story ...

Hi again! I put together the M-79 using rocket ammo and no fast travel as individual small mods and a combo mod of the two. The links are up on my Patreon page here: www.patreon.com/jravensYou absolutely DO NOT need to join my Patreon to download these and they are freely available through there and on Nexus where it links to. I just want to start offering some more cool little extras like these to my patrons. Thanks for the suggestion to make these and hope they fit the bill for you! Now back to working on my big FC4 mod whew...
