Only ever used flamethrowers in previous Farcrys when forced to for the sake of mission completion, so I will not be bothering with this event

To be clear you actually don't use the flamethrower FOR this event (you need to use flame arrows or incendiary ammo), but yeah if you don't use the flamethrower then maybe the skin and outfit is of no use to you. I'm a completionist so I'll probably do as much of these as I can even if the outfits are butt ugly (like this one LOL - just my opinion of course )

I'll probably use it only to earn the perks. It's never, ever been a weapon I use in any type of loadout, for any type of task or mission.
BTW, discovered Dutch's island does not remain free of peggies following the tutorial. An ideal location to earn the limited number of flamethrower kills for those perks.

Someone posted you could rack up just about all the perk points you needed by grinding in Dutch's island for a few hours at the start of the game. Not always easy (long range kills, takedowns from below) nor covers every animal for hunting, but it's a poor man's method to try and do a new game+ where you start with most of the abilities and have the cash to unlock a large number of weapons.
I may try it sometime just to experience the less "zany" spawns and have a more measured roaming experience at start. Maybe then branch across the waters to Jospeh's island area where the church compound is at the start and try roaming around there a bit. I dunno. I've not been rushing back to play it sadly.

Before realizing that Joseph's island was the "final" region, went back to where the story started to see what I might have missed upon escaping - go near the church and make any kind of noise with a weapon (there's wildlife), and you'll find that's there's more then one/two peggies roaming around!! The island is an active zone NPC-wise.
It's an interesting concept; what used to be achievements (kill x enemies with y weapon) now is a major part of how to get improvements. Good and bad I suppose. Does force you to a certain extent out of your comfort zone weapon-use wise.
