Thought some might get a kick out of what turned out to be the MOST fun so far in free-roaming.
First, learned how to retain a GFH - this time a long range guy w/ a bow - think he will spawn at the same location in game - just what I needed for stealthing around and in need of GFH kills. Anyway ...
Remember that "highway of death" from the first Gulf War? Well it can be done in FC5 via the ground!
By chance came upon that major road as you cross into Jacob's region, and there were two stopped peggy vehicles. Got the kills and placed C4. Blew the next vehicle attempting to go around. Now had a pretty good choke point. So with my suppressed AR, commenced taking out arriving vehicles, using some bushes and the other vehicles as cover. Then the moose herds starting showing up, and they took out add'l vehicles, plus getting killed, so that worked out nicely.
This re-generation of arriving vehicles went on for a good half hour of play time. Couldn't believe that the spawning didn't cease (as it would previously in FCs). After two flamers showed up (wonder how that got triggered), decided enough was enough, and exited.
Well over two dozen identifiable vehicles and countless destroyed ones littered the roadway!! What a riot!! It was totally a blast. Simple game play at its best.

I've had similar experiences in all three areas; just depends on where the enemy NPC spawns are and what roads they're programmed to travel. I have to wonder if the spawns don't increase due to our presence/activity as the player character. Does make for some seriously fun mayhem though! My favorite is a road side fixed MG emplacement, or a jacked pegi gun truck parked along the road. I like to impose a cantalope, lobster dinner, or goat tax on all passing pegis. If they can't pay the tax they get smoked (oddly enough none of 'em have had the fee so far)!

I wouldn't be surprised if the spawning is impacted by you simply staying within a very specific area by triggering an action. I will assume using a suppressed weapon cuts down on what the game throws your way due to reduced noise radius. It did previously.
So far haven't had luck with a continuous flow of activity when using a fixed roadside MG position. Get a few vehicles, then it stops. Same when I discovered a peggy position with a RPG guy. Set up for some addt'l kills for perk purposes, and had only one truck come across the position. I suppose could have moved off a ways and things would have started spawning again, however only had one main weapon at that time.
Still stealthing around, looking to come across a MG60 in a game location, or even a SMG. Believe I can do a specialist mission which will gain me a M60 from a Heavy, but would really like to simply discover locations for addt'l weapons beyond the AR-C/AR-CL/bow/shotgun.

{Spoiler} Mike; take the Regulator, Regurgitator, or whatever it's called (it's the huge road block running/killing truck side mission) mission. When you kill the truck; it should dump two Heavy Cultist MGers on the road for you to scarf up/unlock, or keep as you see fit.

{Spoiler} Decided to go ahead with recruiting Jess, and a Heavy spawns in the escort mission at one of the locations. So that took care of the specific need. Will still be looking for any fixed location, but it might well be via finding a Heavy that you come across the M60 in-game.
