For this tutorial I am assuming you have the Gibbed Dunia 2 Tools and know at least how to pack and unpack with them. You should also have a copy of patch_hd (mine, yours, or some other) that you can unpack and re-pack. if you don't know how to do this please refer to the modding 101 threads on the basics and become comfortable with pack and unpacking the files and placing them into your game directory, etc.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE This feature (removing the bus ride video) will be included in 0.18 FINAL.
So if you don't want to sit through the 5 minute or so cinematic intro each time you start a new game this is how to skip it. This will remove the first part of the game where Ajay is on the bus and of course meets Pagan Min the first time. Instead when you start a new game it will begin at Pagan Min's table with you, him, Paul and some crab ragoon.
I will also explain how to remove the startup videos when the game first starts (NVIDIA logo, etc) as these use a similar method of substituting the bink movie file (.bik files)
To start with go to your Dunia tools directory. In the subfolder projects you will find another subfolder called Far Cry 3 and yet another folder under that called files. So the correct filepath is:
[wherever gibbed is installed]\Gibberd dunia 2\projects\Far Cry 3\files\
Now you need to find a file named patch.filelist
[wherever gibbed is installed]\Gibberd dunia 2\projects\Far Cry 3\files\patch.filelist
You can open this file with any text editor. I prefer notepad++ because it's free, open source, has lots of features and most importantly it doesn't screw up the tabs/spaces/etc. of any text I am working with. I find sometimes other text editors add invisible unwanted stuff like spaces or line returns and it causes issue with the files you are trying to modify.
Once you have this file opened scroll to the bottom and add these lines (1 per line):
graphics\characters\_common\animations\narrative\fullscreen_binks\cin_100_010.bik
\ui\singleplayer\video\fcc_logoshort_wsound.bik
\ui\singleplayer\video\nvidia.bik
\ui\singleplayer\video\ubisoftlogo.bik
Save this file.
What we have done now is added the proper names and paths for these files so you can pack and unpack them without the dunia tools renaming them some random string of letters and numbers. Any time you can do this it makes your work so much easier because the files are correctly identified and more recognizable by you and others. Unfortunately while I do know many of the files in FC4 I do not have all of them identified (there are hundreds of thousands of files).
If you want you can find a much larger list (again not all inclusive, but still better) at this website:
fc4modding.janne252.com/index.php?area=misc
under the download listed as "Far Cry 4 Project Definitions for Rick's Dunia Tools". That is not my site (nor my files), but the modders who created them did a great service by providing those definations to everyone. You'll need to read carefully and do some experimenting to get their definitions working in your setup (or else follow their instructions and set your Gibbed Tools up the way they describe)
Adding those definition files is NOT required for what we are doing, but if you want to go deeper into modding it will certainly help you. For now though lets just get back to focusing on adding the 4 definitions I wrote above (the 4 bik files).
I choose to put those definitions into patch.filelist even though they could go into any of the filelists. Gibbed tools doesn't seem to care where the files are listed (it will check all of them) and since most of our work occurs in patch or patch_hd I like to just use that filelist. You should also note that while the Gibbed tools don't mind the same file being listed multiple times it DOES become confused if the CaSe is different so if you have both:
\ui\singleplayer\video\ubisoftlogo.bik
\UI\Singleplayer\Video\Ubisoftlogo.bik
The Gibbed tools will become confused and throw an error message. Therefore when adding files to your filelists I advocate always working in lowercase so as not to cause any issues with accidental multiple instances of the same file.
OK enough about blah blah blah filelists! Onto the actual files:
Now you need 4 blank bink videos. You could make these yourself using an empty file or if you like you can download this handy dandy zip file attached to this post that I made including the files named and placed in the right paths.
Just unzip it to your working patch_hd folder that you have unpacked with the gibbed tools. Then repack the patch_hd file (and rename it if necessary to remove _unpack from the end) and place it in your game directory. Always be sure you make backups of any file you are replacing just in case something goes wrong or you want to revert back to how you had things.
Start a new game and enjoy those extra 5 or so minutes you get back in your life!
