Got my Windows 10 update yesterday (from Win 8.1 Home 64 to Win 10 Home 64). Installed the Nvidia Win 10 353.62 64 bit driver to go with it. Steam fires up just fine and I played The Wither 3 quite a bit last night with NP. Tried to start up Uplay and FC 4 a few minutes ago (both offline--my usual mode of play for Uplay games and online). Uplay comes up OK, then FC 4 starts; when I get to the press any button screen and press a button the game crashes; I get a prompt telling me Uplay has suffered a crash dump, and I also get a Windows prompt telling my my Nvidia driver has crashed and recovered. I located the crash dump files in the Uplay Launcher folder..........it's just gibberish when I open the CD log with notepad or MS word. The same thing is happening with Uplay/FC 3. Tried opening Uplay as an Administrator to no avail too. Anyone know what program to use to open the Uplay Launcher Crash Dump files with? TY! I'm off to check in with the Uplay and Nvidia Forums to see if I can get any more info.

A lot of guys on Reddit saying Far Cry THREE works just perfect for them (I realize you have 4 crashing): https://www.reddit.com/r/farcry/comments/3fw6j1/cant_run_far_cry_3_on_windows_10/The general consensus there is reinstall Nvidia drivers. If you tried that maybe a reinstall of both the game and uplay? I've not made the jump to 10 yet and don't plan on it for a while (until I'm inevitably forced to by some game or another) Anyone else here moved to Win 10 and playing Far Cry 4 ??

I had this problem, too, but under Win7 You have to totally deinstall Uplay and reinstall it again, the shit cost me half a day. 0. Backup you savegames, deleting Uplay will also delete your saves.... 1. Uninstall Uplay. This can be done from Add or Remove Programs. However, it leaves files behind which you need to delete. 2. Go into Program Files (x86) and delete the entire folder called Ubisoft 3. Restart computer. (This is important for some reason) 4. Reinstall Uplay from the Uplay webdite. Link: uplay.ubi.com/en-GB/about#link5. Restart computer again.

Aaaaaagggghhhhh!!!!!!! Not really the reply I wanted! You were supposed to tell me you'd waved your magic wand, and it was all better now! I was about to that point anyway..............been over to the Ubi Tech & Support Forum reading---bunch of problems with Uplay and Win 10 dating back to Mar/April of this year when it was the Win 10 preview build. Tried a couple of the suggested work arounds to no avail. I have since DLed the current version of UPlayInstaller.exe (I did not uninstall my current version first though), and reinstalled Uplay No luck with that! Posted my problem in Ubi's Tech & Sup forum with a screenie of the failure prompt I'm getting, and my system specs. I'll wait till I hear something back from them; or 3-4 days, whichever comes first.......................then it's off to your suggestion of uninstall/delete everything, reboot, and reinstall it all. Did I mention Aaaaaaagggggghhhhhh!!!!!!!! Because if I didn't.........................I meant to!
Win 10-----it's OK; looks and works mostly like 8.1. If you haven't heard/read..............it's got a lot of spying BS built into it; that is on by default. Guess what I spent the first 10 minutes doing after I got it installed and running? Particularly alarming to me were the options to allow apps (e.g. Skype and a bunch of others) to use my built in camera and mic. Combined with remote access authorization..........................not a pretty picture! Figured I might just as well contact our NSA and Chinese Intelligence directly and give them what they want! I was hoping for maybe a slight bump in gaming performance due to DX 12 (even though my GTX 880Ms are last gen DX11 pieces). Didn't notice any while playing TW 3 last night (another reason I wanted to give FC 4 a whirl this afternoon). Thanks for the replies! UPDATE: Received replies from two of the mods in the Uplay T & S Forum; just sent my Uplay crash dump logs to one of them at the address they gave me. Waiting to see what they say. Didn't mention yesterday; Steam starts and runs fine, so does TW3, Dying Light, Dead Rising 3, and GTA V. Damn Uplay! Ggggggggrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!! UPDATE 2: Quite a few complaints about the Win 10 353.62 drivers in the Nvidia drivers, and PC Game forums. One of the mods stated they (Nvidia) were aware of an issue with the 353.62 drivers being a frequent cause of games using all the VRAM on users GPU/s even when the game being played should not be using that much VRAM. Interesting; in light of the two times Uplay started OK for me; allowing me to get to the press any button screen in FC 4---whereupon FC 4 crashed and I got a simultaneous advisory my video driver had crashed and recovered.

Let this be a lesson to all of you. ALWAYS BACK YOUR STORAGE UP REGULARLY
Saturday morning TW 3 (one of my Steam games) started random CTDing; that plus the non functioning Uplay/Uplay games, and no noticeable game performance benefit from the DX 12 API in Win 10. I said **** on it, and reverted back to Win 8.1. When the reversion was complete it took me back to the Win 8.1 log in screen (my comp was pass worded), but when I logged in it started to load the drivers then black screened. After a fair bit of tinkering and cursing, I chucked the Win 8.1 rescue disc into my optical drive. That started OK, saying it was scanning my C drive and repairing files; got to the 56% mark and reverted back to the Win 8.1 log in screen. Logged in and black screened as before.
Took it up to the computer hospital yesterday morning; the tech called me today and said to come get it. When I got there; he told me Win 10 had installed 7 partitions on my HDD during the install or reversion; CORRUPTING EVERYTHING ON MY HDD. Virtually none of which I had backed up. All my pictures, games, mods, music, documents/personal data, and internet settings/bookmarks are gone. He'd reformatted my drive and reinstalled Win 8.1.
Just got NIS, Startisback, Firefox, video, and audio drivers installed and configured Windows.................had a hell of a time locating the website/forum as I couldn't remember the correct name of the website. Finally thought to go to Nexusmods/FC 4 and look for one of JRs mods which had a link here.
NOT a good day for 'ol Flanker!
BACK YOUR **** UP IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN!
I'll likely be hitting on some of you in the near future; for assistance in rebuilding my Frankenstein mod for FC 4 (haven't got Uplay, Steam, or Origin installed yet) as I'm still chugging through installing the more basic stuff I use.

Ouuuuuch. That sucks big time Sorry for your misfortune. I wish I could say I don't know what you mean, but I do all too well. We'll be here when you need us. Between all of us surely someone has a copy of just about every mod, etc. ever posted Good luck with the new account. On the bright side your computer will be blazing fast for a while. nothing like a complete FUBAR to clean out all the years of bloat even if the cure is worse than the disease

Thanks.....................not sure who I'm at. MS for that bleeped up reversion process, or myself for violating my primary OS rule: NEVER switch to a new MS OS until 8-12 months AFTER release. That stood me in good stead for Vista, 7, & 8, and it's my own darn fault for getting itchy with 10. Not real happy with the Tech who reformatted my drive and reinstalled 8.1 either. He knew I'm an avid gamer, who had a ton of games and mods on the comp, and I was very clear I only wanted the minimum necessary to fix the 8.1 reversion, and that I'd perform any necessary driver reversions, and so on. When he called and said the comp was ready; I asked what had been wrong? He told me Win 10 had corrupted a portion of the master book sector; but he'd fixed it, and I was good to go. Didn't say a darn thing about reformatting the drive and the fresh 8.1 install. Didn't say anything to me about it when I paid my bill, and picked the comp up either! I got home, booted it up, was puzzled why there was no pass word screen and the comp name was changed. I checked my system tray to run an NIS update and saw there was no NIS icon; ran a search for it, and received a Windows advisory there were NO programs installed on the comp. I almost fell off my bleeping chair! On top all that--when I'd picked up the comp; I'd asked if he'd reverted the Nvidia Win 10 driver to the correct Win 8.1 driver, and if I needed to run Windows Update. He still didn't say anything about the reformat and fresh install; said he hadn't done anything with the video driver (WTBleep!----other than reformat it LOL!), and Windows was all up to date and good to go. As I type; I'm DLing and installing the last of 189 critical/important Windows updates. Oh and most of the ancillary devices in the comp have an exclamation point next to them in the Device Manager----so it looks like a bunch of driver installs for those. Gotta consult with Sager Tech Support before I do those. Aren't computers fun?!

Flanker - Is one of your PC "hobbies" the Microsoft FSX by any chance? Are you a member of Avsim? I seem to remember a Flanker 6 being over there too...

I can totally relate to Flanker's experience regarding what a local retail walk-in tech shop WON'T mention as to what they may have done - or not done - when you bring in a unit for servicing/issues/repairs/upgrades. Can drive you right up the wall!!
My current OS is Win7, and that's only after so many good years with Win98. Same story, didn't go with Win8 either at the time, as it just had been released.

Flanker - Is one of your PC "hobbies" the Microsoft FSX by any chance? Are you a member of Avsim? I seem to remember a Flanker 6 being over there too... Nope........................that's one of the dopplegangers I use to fool the aliens and who're trying to capture me. Got Uplay and Steam installed; installed TW 3 in Steam and got the mod combo I use reinstalled and functioning. Rebuilding your drive is a pain in the ***! You forget all the Micky Mouse stuff you "had" and took for granted. After I got all the TW 3 mods DLed.....................I realize I don't have anything to open RAR files anymore. DUH! After an hour of fretting and stewing; I located the WinRAR Product Code e mail I'd archived back when..............so I didn't have to buy another copy of that. Lucked out with my legit copy of FRAPS too! I'll probably do GTA V next; as I was running only a single mod in that..............piece of cake! Comparatively; FC 4 shouldn't be that bad to do, when I get to it. Though I'm DREADING rebuilding FC 3 as I used bits 'n pieces of at least 5 or 6 mod compendiums for that, and easily had a hundred plus hours into editing various elements of that mish mash. Then there's all the productivity stuff; MS Office, photo editing, PDF reading, Notebook ++ blah, blah, blah! I made a DVD/RW copy of My Docs/Pics/Music in June 2011; before I went to Iraq the last time..............so I have some of my music library. And I've been buying my mp3s from Amazon the last couple years, and they provide free cloud storage so I can get those back too. I used to keep a LOT of personal data on the comp in an encrypted portion of my drive, but had stopped doing that in June 2014---so I had it all on a flash drive in my safe. Did I mention the 1 TB, USB 3.0 external drive enroute to me from Newegg? Takes me a while, but I can learn!

Best practice, f6... a little costly for some, perhaps C:\ 250 - 500 MB Raptor or WD Black HDD. Install the OS on it and nothing else - ever, plus a 100 - 200 MB Paging file. Libraries pointing to documents, pics, anything you would normally keep in your user folder - place on the G:\ drive (below) and put a link to it via the Windows Library. Hardware drivers generally install here, but their downloads go on the E:\. D:\ DVD Burner E:\ 1TB WD SATA (latest v.) Second Paging file - this time Custom size set to 6144MB in both boxes. All downloads: all business apps; all email apps; all receipts; all music; all utilities (in one folder); all backup software; all BIOS utilities and updates; all security software (MalwareBytes; PW software; ms Security Essentials); all game source downloads; all driver downloads; all overclocking info; F:\ 250 - 500 GB SSD - Samsung Pro. Gaming only. G:\ 500 GB same as C:\. Third Paging file - Same as E:\ - a Custom size set to 6144MB in both boxes. General Purpose; Far Cry 4 modding; Gaming backup files. This is the work drive. H:\ 2 - 3TB external USB HDD - Monthly image of C:\ . File Copy of E:\ and G:\ As someone else - Willy, I think - said - let the new OS mature for a year or more before destroying the perfectly good (Windows 7-64-bit Pro version) "old" one. Much of Windows 8 is "gimmick-y" and I'm not sure I want the communication abilities of 10, given it's "new opportunities for hackers!" functionality. This is a very common IT practice. Windows Update - on, but you choose what and when: Windows Firewall on - always. MS Security Essentials - downloaded and running - always. MalwareBytes Anti-Malware Home - Premium, purchased, downloaded and always running. 2 copies of your OS install DVD handy. 2 copies of your Repair disk handy - perhaps a bootable memory key, too. If you're putting a new OS on the PC - buy a new (identical) drive and clone your existing OS drive to it so you have a very solid backup. Remove the original and put in the cloned drive so that it's now "tested good". Then switch back to the original if you wish. Then read Microsoft's instructions, options and advice several times over a couple of days or three, until you are sure you have all of your bases covered, notes made, and you fully understand that chosen process. When you're absolutely ready - don't be afraid - just do it yourself, but following the described process to the letter. You can also call MS and discuss this process prior to doing it too. Don't let a "PC hobby-ist" near your PC. Upgrading or replacing an Operating Sytem is the most major event in your computer's life, and you want someone with some MS licencing - minimum - behind them and a few years as a PC Support Tech working in business or government IT - not in retail. I know - I might upset a few, but sorry - the two are not the same: environments, training, workload, and responsibilities are quite different bags. You don't necessarily need or want someone with a Bachelor of Computer Science degree, but 10 years as a tech support technician (close enough job profile) for a major bank would be fine. A 19 years old whiz kid, with 3 years working experience at Best Buy does not have the same skillset. 2 cents... pj

I am also eying Win10 closely, but I will not do anything before Service Pack 1 is out, at least.
Lately I had so much trouble with my rig, that I had to go to a dealer (luckily its the company I worked for in the 90ies, so I know them and that they do good work). I had just bought a new processor (FX-8350) and gaming was amazing but the fan that came with the CPU was extremely loud, so I bought a new fan, too. I mounted it started again, played FC4 and suddenly everything became slow for a few seconds and regained speed again. I tried everything but the problem persisted. After three days I gave up and went to the dealer, they also tried a lot of things but the rig would run superb for a minute, then go slow again. After hours we found the problem.
The motherboard was overheating, but the first fan had sent so much air to the board that is was cooled sufficiently, the new, much better, fan was concentrating solely on the processor, so that the board was´nt cooled anymore and slowed down when the heat reached a threshold. since there were no sensors for the board temperature, it was nearly impossible to find the problem. So in the end what had been € 135,- for the processor ended with € 400,- for a new board, a new fan and hours....
So much to never touch a running system...
