Hey guys! Just an FYI that I'm still out.. well.. here! (Wherever "here" is on the internet LOL)
Been quiet lately around here lately. Long Labor Day weekend for me with lots of Honey Dos. Also as you might have seen I bought MGS V so that has consumed copious amounts of my time.
The only Far Cry related things to report:
1) Alex Hutchinson (creative director for Far Cry and several other Ubisoft titles) favorited a couple of silly tweets from me:
My pitch for FC4's version of "Blood Dragon" (credit to Reddit users for coming up with this idea):
@bangbangclick Big Trouble in Little Kyrat! A parody of 80s action Hong Kong movies. Make this happen NAOW! goo.gl/5WUea4
()
My response to him expressing shock at fire unicorns and fire whales in the intro to Metal Gear Solid V:
@bangbangclick Best opening cinematic ever! Also coming from the guy that brought me drug induced rainbow technocolor bears. Just sayin'
Sadly he did NOT respond to my tweets asking if there was anything else coming for Far Cry
2) Trying to help some users on Steam with the horrific pixelation shader they use in Far Cry games when transitioning from one LOD (level of detail) to another.

Proof of concept video here (meh):

Not even sure this is worth the vast amount of time it has taken me to change the LOD switch in thousands and thousands of entities and reconvert and pack them. Still have thousands more to do
I spent some hours going through the shaders, textures and other files trying to find a better way to do this, but I think it's all handled engine side and not something we can adjust trhough the files.
3) Sent in a ticket to Ubisoft support about #2 above and asked the Dev team if they could consider using some kind of blur effect or some other way besides black pixels when switching LODs. Got back a nice canned response about how Ubi appreciates their fans, but can't accept unsolicited ideas or suggestions. Lovely. Anyway I also tweeted to Alex about this as well. Maybe someone somewhere will see it and come up with a better solution.
Anyway that's it for me. Hope you guys are having fun with whatever games you are playing currently
