I sometimes really wonder about the depiction of violence in the media.
Here in germany it is something special, the student protests of the late 60ies and the nasty memories of the third reich had a tremendous influence on our society in the 70ies and 80ies. These so called sixtyeighters (people who went to University in the 60ies and took part in the protests in 68) formed the majority of teachers and civil servants in those decades, and the depiction of violence in any medium was shunned. War movies were unimaginable on TV, and the only violence ever shown was a murder in some of the cop shows on TV.
Then came cable tv and some shows, like the A-team, that would not have been shown in public tv in the 70ies, became commonplace. Then came computer games and while there is an uproar concerning violence in computer games (killer games in politicians parlance) from time to time, acceptance has become commonplace.
If I look at the society of my youth and compare it to today, violence has become much more accepted everywhere I look, the sixtyeighters all have gone out to pasture and the new generation has grown up with all the media we are used to, today.
Even if I enjoy those games and movies myself, I do think that the world might be a better place without Youtube and the so called social media and all the stuff they carry and spread.
Nobody can keep a six year old with access to a computer (and who hasn`t) from seing things he shouldn`t....

To add a bit more on DL - have started a third play thru - with the in-game rule that states the I can't purchase any weapons - must find them in the world - so money is basically worthless and used only to purchase supplies from the vendors.
Two aspects if you have looked at Major Slack's videos - the general outline of how to get going and how to combine various missions is sound. However he did his run thru prior to the current set of patches - so the structure of what you can buy, and how many items to craft has been changed.
Second, once you are on your own and told to go see Dr. Zere, the whole map is open and there is no day/night cycle (so no need to have safe zones) - explore as much as you like and work on the skill sets well beyond what took place in the video. This is also true once told to go see Spike to actually start the First Assignment - which should give you the very first level of Survivor skill sets (i.e., you earn the points by seeing Dr. Zere), and that makes free-roaming really a lot of fun early as you explore the slums.
I also have to second what JR stated about having little kids play/view this game - it's only a game of course, but the language and gore isn't suited for kids whatsoever.

I picked up a copy about a week after it came out in the US. Pretty game world; runs smooth on my comp with all the eye candy dialed up. Good game (combat) play mechanics. Scripted linear campaign sucks (pretty much the same as FC 3 and FC 4--I refuse to give any game that butt strokes me in the face [twice in DL mind you!] during a cut scene a good rating). I'm about two thirds of the way through the game.............haven't played it in ages. Swinging from the rafters and eves....................isn't that the same bleep you have to over do in the AC series? It was cool the first 5492 times I did it.........................now? MEH!!! Though I do like the amount of verticality in the game, and that many of the zombies can climb after you (long overdue!). Then there's the well documented climbing/parkour glitch; wherein your character simply fails to grab onto the next object you're jumping up to, even though you've performed all your button mashing correctly. Repeatedly falling to my death, and losing a bundle of arduously accumulated XP due to a game glitch.............I'd pay extra for that. The in game grappling hook is much more useful than in FC 4; though it's DL implementation in some instances may be a bit generous. Did someone say "melee weapons"? Speakin' of stuff in DL that sucks..............five different color categories of the SAME weapons, with 4 or 5 subgrades of the SAME weapons within each color category = somewhere between 20 and 25 versions of the SAME weapons. Way to go............Lazy Devs!!!! Ballistic weapons with the same barrel length; firing the same cartridge delivering vastly different power factors------uh huh, uh huh!! Well at least it supports some mods/modding. I've edited all the sword stats to the same damage level (BTW---how does a sledge hammer wear out from hitting rotting zombies in the head? Seriously!), one of the mods I'm using eliminates the weapon deterioration factor, and both rifles and both pistols now perform identically. I've also modded the explosives to where they are REALLY dangerous (after all as everyone in the REAL world knows.............the blast radius of a grenades is ALWAYS 1 foot farther than you can throw it!). 6 outta 10 for me. May finish it "some" day.

Mike, thanks for the Major Slack Attacks videos heads up. I was looking for the minor bosses hangout room and was kinda lost. Found it with his video help.

Mike, thanks for the Major Slack Attacks videos heads up. I was looking for the minor bosses hangout room and was kinda lost. Found it with his video help. Glad it helped. I always find his videos helpful, and especially entertaining (even if I have no interest in the specific game he's show casing.)

Bought it for 10% off yesterday I think it was, now is 25% off for another 2 days or so. Oh well, only about 7 bucks diff. But if you are interested, you can get it for 46.99usd at Steam June18 and 19th or beyond a bit. JFYI. I recommend it, am keyboard and mouse fps only player, is similar just as everyone said, just adding my vote for similar to FC4 in play, but not exactly same of course. Is refreshing. Thanks to all.
today is adding up to be a good day, even considering this.

In Dying Light, I got stuck into a safe camp with night falling quickly, after dying, on first day of playing. Hope the fence is high enough, heh. One said it is gonna be a long night...... golly willikers. That lock-picking is novel, but considering the construction of the chests, a pipe could getcha in quicker, I bet...

Once you get the camo survivor skill it's a neat trick to pick a lock without removing any nearby zombies ... just saying ...

Thanks, Mike, Heh, I used TakeOut cause I looked like sweet and sour pork (chicken, maybe, heh) after a bout of Unreal Tournament. Then I thought about the way the mob uses the term to "take someone out" and liked it. LOVE Chinese food, too.
I was told somewhere that in the Slums part, the night never falls, no wonder waiting in that camp after dying didn't make time pass. Oh well, live and learn. Now though, was running around doin stuff and then it looks darker and darker in Slums level. So, does it get night there or not??? Inquiring minds need to know....

In brief regarding "night never falls" while in the Slums -- you get the day/night cycle once the campaign mission Air Drop is completed. Until that point it's simply a very long day. You basically run out of the ability to increase Survivor skills, but can continue building up the other two however.
Also, it's by improving Survivor skills that the better weapons become available.
To get an idea of what Air Drop involves, especially the last, and most important, part - look at Major Slack's video so labeled - if you don't mind a spoiler.

OH YEAH, Major Slack is THE way to improve, even better than what the game advises. He shows how you can level up by throwing zombies into spikes and traps and blowing them up like ten times faster than killing them with weapons. I am stuck at those last two darn lights to get them activated, I keep trying to jump over to them, but darn if I don't miss every time, this is the activation of the the three pole lights on first assignment in Slums, I got the first no sweat, but just feel stupid on those other two, Major don't seem to mention them at all.
Only good thing about that is I am finding all kinds of loot and stuff. Got about five blueprints, missed the one on top of the doctors van, heh, till the video showed me.

Getting the three pole lights activated is clearly shown in Slack's videos ... Look at parts 8 & 9 This is the phase where you have to using your jumping abilities, and it does take a bit of practice the very first time you play the game (it did for me at least).

Great, so he does say. I will check those 8 and 9 out. I jumped for about 1/2 hour and thought I must be doing something wrong. Practice is no problem if I know that is what is required, just futily jumping to the ground is monotonous... heh. Thanks.

I had that problem too T. The one closest to the overpass you have to shamble up a nearby pole. There is the light pole you have to activate and then another pole near it. You climb up the other pole to the top then turn towards it and watch his arm stretch out. His arm stretching out is the indicator that you can sort of "far jump" to a nearby ledge/pole/etc. The other one I either had to climb on the roof of the nearby warehouse or a train roof. Can't remember. I do know I thought the jump was too far to possibly make it, but it must be one of those canned sequences where the hero takes a big lunge because I ran jump and sailed right over too it. That one aggravated me a bit because I tried and tried and think I was just jumping from the wrong place. I will say after that mission I haven't had a mission (YET!) that required precise jumping. You pretty much free to approach things how you want... ehh well wait a sec - there is a mission where you have to go on some walkways under an overpass to get onto a guys roof. That was a little tricky, but nowhere near as hard as those two dang poles I still like it a lot. Wait until you have to clear out this power plant full of zeds hooo boy that is a pretty interesting one. I must bbq hundreds of those biters LOL

Hooo boy indeed when it comes to that third power plant side quest. Depending on what you which to accomplish besides the stated reward, there are a couple of ways a player can approach it - how Slack did it in his video is only one.
