DLV Spoiler text info:
So Hours of Darkness starts off with a cartoon / comic book style intro video of your character bloody and bruised opening his eyes. He flashes back to two helicopters flying over Vietnam. He is a door gunner on one of them and there are several other US soldiers in the helicopter with him (about 4-5 beisdes him). Two of the characters take the spotlight - 1 is Joker who has a Joker playing card (what else? ) in the headband of his army helmet which has JOKER NYC scrawled on it. The other is Moses a black soldier who is holding his cross he wears and looking at a picture of his wife and kids. I think the other soldiers in both choppers just end up being generic POWS you rescue later. Suddenly the chopper takes ground fire and swerves off. It begins to smoke and crashes (of course!) you wake up among the wreakage and three Vietnamese soldiers with AK-47s are running at you screaming. You start to get up and blam get hit in the face with the butt of an AK. (Boy Far Cry sure does love knocking the player unconscious with the butt of a rifle! )
I presume the game will start with you escaping a prison camp and trying to rescue the other soldiers who went down in the crash.
The art style is interesting and very different from the main game. I feel like they will be tying the comic books into the DLC in the way that Arcade is for Multiplayer. Instead of Far Cry Arcade maybe it will be Far Cry Adventures or Far Cry Stories or something along those lines. I guess we'll have to see how they tie it in.
Activities in Hours of Darkness listed in the files include rescuing POWs, eliminating VIPs, clearing outposts, destroying AA guns so you can call in airstrikes with your binoculars, and collecting zippo lighters (which I assume ties to that old man character in the main campaign who tells you he and his squad were in Vietnam and has you collect their lighters)
A few new animals are listed including Banteng Cattle, Crocodiles and a Panther (reskinned cougar). There are also retextured dogs and pigs to fit the setting better I guess.
So weapons. The character has access to most of the normal throwable weapons - grenade (obviously), throwing knives and dynamite. Molotov wasn't specifically listed, but I can't see it NOT being available in the DLC. No idea if bait will be a thing. There is a mine listed, but do not know if this is a landmine (I'm REALLY hoping it's a claymore because I think that would be so cool, but I would have expected it to be labeled that way if it was)
The only melee weapon listed is "Bamboo Rod" so sadly no specific files relating to combat knives or machetes or anything you could use for knife takedowns... but who knows maybe they will add those things. Many people have been asking for knife/machete takedowns to be put back in.
There is a Vietnam variant of the Recurve Bow for those lovely ranged stealth kills.
For guns... oh boy quite a few actually. First and foremost is the anticipated M16A1. Next up we have the M60 machine gun which has two different models - the M60VN (which obviously is for Vietnam) and the M60E4 which is a newer model of the M60. So really hoping this means we will have access to the M60E4 in the main game. Actually hoping ALL the weapons are available in the main game (but then with GRW the DLC weapons were not so dunno... it wouldn't be good for Ubi selling season passes if people could get the guns for free - they would need a way to only unlock them for season pass / DLC holders)
Several of the classic Soviet weapons from FC3 and FC4 will be returning for the enemy forces - the classic AK-47, classic version of the RPG and the SVD sniper rifle.
In the files, but not specifically listed for Vietnam are the 6P9 and Luger pistols. Both of these would fit the setting so maybe one or both will appear. Otherwise I guess they are future unlockable guns.
The M133 will be available to cover the shotgun category. It will have a specific Vietnam skin/model. Also the .308 sniper will have a Vietnam version as well as a M1911 skin specific to this DLC. No specific entries for SMGs so maybe the MP40 -or- the MP34 may make a return.
Looks like we will also eventually get two outfits (for both male and female) - Vietnam Outfit and GI Outfit. Probably as Live Events around the DLC launch.
There is quite a lot of the Vietnam DLC already in the files. I really think we will not have very long to wait for it's release. Maybe only a month or two... though probably not that long. Hopefully Ubisoft brings us some official dates.
