I posted on the 'Disabling weapon unlock from pickups' topic about a dead end that I had encountered, and ten minutes later, had an idea to test in the same field. I replaced the weapon archetype in the AK47 pickup to the AK47 carried by NPCs, and added it to my mod. On starting a new game, I picked up an AK47 dropped by an enemy. I discovered that changing the weapon archetype from AK47 to the NPC AK47 keeps the AK47 locked in game (as the NPC AK is not defined in the shop, so nothing is unlocked.
This led me to an idea for defining NPC weapon equivalents for ALL the weapons, and handing them out to the NPCs as necessary. Additionally, creating a new batch of NPC weapon pickups would limit the weapon unlocks in the store, while leaving the player weapon pickups to the player.
This involves creating a lot of archetype files. I checked the forums, and found evidence of archetypes being created, and also found an excel file with all modder-created archetypes. But there is no information on how to create my own archetypes. Can anyone help me out?

After some experimentation with the game files, I believe I have figured out a way to add new weapons into the game, in a manner reminiscent of Ziggy in his famous FC3 mod. I am working on a tutorial for the same, and am also preparing a set of xml files for NPC versions of all the available weapons in the game. With these, I believe that I can equip the NPCs with whichever weapons I wish (including signature weapons) and not have them unlock in the shop if the player picks them up. Stay tuned for further updates.
