Don't know if anyone else has pinged on this game yet. I just came a cross a small article on it yesterday. Originally proposed by a Fallujah Vet in 2005, and announced in 2009 by Publisher Konami 6DiF was cancelled amongst controversy and objections to the portrayal of the events of the Second Battle of Fallujah. 6DiF has now been picked by Publisher Victura and Developer Highwire Games. The resurrected project has since been protested by the Council on American and Islamic Relations, and some Iraq Vets for attempting to realistically portray the events of the 2004 battle. I find this a bit ironic as it's a repeat of some of the stink which attended Novalogic's development and release of Delta Force-Black Hawk Down back in '02 or '03.
BHD had, and 6DiF has Veterans of these battles as advisors; contributing professional advice on tactics, movements and personal and anecdotal experiences. Both games were/are also objected to by other Vets for reasons as varied as portraying traumatic events that still affected them and/or their families, or they felt disrespected the events and/or their service in some fashion. Both games were/are objected to by Muslim Advocacy groups as anti MUslim for various reasons. Media accounts state CAIR's recent objection to 6DiF includes protests the game as being "an Arab murder simulator", and it will "normalize violence against Muslims". At least Novalogic didn't have to contend with antisocial media blowups of The Outraged on Facebook and Twitter. For the record: BHD went on to be a big hit and moneymaker for Novalogic.
Enough of all that. I played and enjoyed BHD (SP and MP) extensively, nor did it's SP campaign (the only portion of the game to portray American vs Somali combat; MP was strictly Americans vs Americans in different uniforms) cause me to be bigoted against, or go on killing sprees of Somali's or Muslims. So; I'm definitely interested in 6D1F, and looking forward to it's release. BTW: I lived in Iraq for 2 years working for 2 different Corporations on projects for both the Dept. of State and Dept. of Defense. I worked very closely with hundreds of American and Coalition Military and NGO employees, as well as hundreds of Iraqi Sunnis, Shias, Chaldeans, and Assyrians. I understand and respect the opinion of anyone who objects to 6DiF; I urge anyone who objects to any of the premise of 6DiF to vote with their wallets and NOT buy a copy.
Here's the Official Trailer featuring some vets/development advisors, presenting part of their rationale for supporting development and their memories/emotions of "being there"............................ "and" some really cool early game play footage.
