I should have composed a list like this a long time ago...
Please help by suggesting other things to add to this list.
Here is a list of things we currently cannot alter/edit in Far Cry 4 (this may change in the future if new discoveries are found):
* Holstering weapons - cannot holster or put away weapons.
EDIT: unbelievably I may have found a work around for this... will be working on a mod to remove "auto-drawing" of the players weapons.
Possible future solutions:
1) Change one of the weapons to "rucksack", "weapons sling", etc. and have a blank weapon that does not fire which the character can equip giving the illusion of holding no weapon.
2) Revisit "holster switch" again in weapons data. To my knowledge this switch only worked in Far Cry 3 when the holster keybinding was enabled. This keybinding is NOT available in Far Cry 4.
Note - Hex editing of the DLL file (aka the other way it was done in Far Cry 3) cannot be done in FC4.
3) If we can get uncompressed LUA files to work (or figure out how to recompress them correctly) it's possible that something can be done with the LUA scripts involving weapon handling.
* Darker Nights - cannot make night time any darker.
Possible future solutions:
1) None really. Lighting is handled at the map level.
2) Some high end video cards with certain shadow settings and ambient occlusion settings seem to create darker environments.
3) I'm sure an overall darker experience could be created with a proper SweetFX setting, but this would affect all dim / shadowy areas of the game.
* Flashlight Toggle - cannot turn the flashlight (the one that comes on when you enter dark caves) on or off manually.
Possible future solutions:
1) Same issue as weapons holstering. The real solution to this would be an edit to the DLL file which cannot be done on far Cry 4.
2) I think I've seen two entries which define which "zones" the flashlight comes on in. These entries could possibly be changed or blanked out so the flashlight simply never comes on at all. Not a very good solution. Although it would perhaps give another use for the flare gun. Other than pyromania I mean
* More Enemies/Harder Outposts
Possible future solutions:
1) The number of opponents in individual encounter groups cannot be changed (i.e. always 1 soldier escorting 1 prisoner on foot). More frequent encounter spawns could however be altered, resulting in generally more encounters with enemies.
2) Outposts and Fortresses are handled through .LUA files. We do have decoded versions of those .LUA files, but the game seems to only acknowledge and used the compressed versions. We would also need a better understanding of those files (Predaaator Studios aka WhyteShark used this method in his FC3 Gyga Island mods which I incorporated into my FC3 Welcome to Wonderland mod)
* Adding new regular or signature weapons - can't add any new guns/bows/etc.
Possible future solutions:
1) No viable solutions yet.
New weapons require new ID and archetype numbers. Archetype numbers we can hijack (in theory) from tons of existing archetypes that were scrapped from the game. Id numbers are tougher. I found a few that worked before which allowed me to activate the previously hidden ACE signature gun and add the Kalinag and Hunters bows as player weapons. Unfortunately something has changed somewhere as off 1.9/1.10 and even those weapons do not appear to be working nor even show up in the shop
* Adding new knives - can't have multiple knives/blades like in Far Cry 3.
EDIT: somewhat of a work around with my Machete Mod which lets you swap Ajay's Kukri permanently with a different blade.
Possible future solutions:
1) Oddly far Cry 4 files contain a plethora of weapon archetypes and textures for a variety of knives and blades including almost all of the original Far Cry 3 ones. Unfortunately there is no support in the shop xml or flash files for adding equipable melee weapons
It's theoretically possible to permanently switch Ajay's Kukri to one of the other blades by swapping archetype files around, but this doesn't allow the player to CHOOSE his blade of choice (or even better allow him to earn and/or buy them).
EDIT - more to come later as I think of them!
