Thanks Mike. I think the "People that Count" at Ubisoft misjudged several things: remember - these guys/gals may be "older" programmers, but are not necessarily programmers; in all likelyhood they will be more business-oriented. Those same "People that Count" have to convey their vision to several, not insubstantialy-sized, globally disparate groups - all of whom have differing skills/languages and experiences and these groups are the folks have to eventually precisely map out, then design and write the game based upon what those big guys want it to look like.
1). "Open World" and "verticality" is new, and the skillset is limited. "Large Open World" builders are even rarer. Expecting a successful, expanded version of FC3 with similar rave acceptances by "us gamers" was an ambitious presumption (sic) by those people.
2). FC3 had one very large main antagonist - Vaas Montenegro, supported by a few lesser good/bad guys - Buck, Dr Earnhardt, Citra, Dennis, Hoyt, etc., and each had a very believable character who "fitted in" to a well-written story. By comparison - other than the new technical achievments - Far Cry 4 is far weaker in all aspects.
3). EULA discussion aside - FC3's success was enhanced by the strong modding community, and that gives the game good legs - we still play it and mods are still being created for it. This will not happen with FC4.
4). Ubisoft is certainly aware of the "most productive" modding enthusiasts, and could have done some limited arrangement with each "modder" which would have allowed a good degree of ex-company mod creation - and with access to Ubisoft's toolset, or a slightly crippled set thereof. They didn't even think to do this, and it's now too late.
5). The code: Ubisoft's "People that Count" chose to leave in great chunks of FC3's code, whether used or not, but then went to great lengths to ensure that the coding was very difficult to unravel: this is a "virtual" smack in the face to folks like Jim Rowley, DZiggy, JR, Bontainer, Janne252, Celikein, et al, and without their higher-than-average technical expertise - we are left stranded with DoDo's like me, who can barely scratch the modding surface.
It's been fun, and the interaction with folks like you, JR, Bontainer, TakeOut, Jimbo has been great - and I'll play it through some more, probably several times, but it'll be depending upon other releases. I may even go back to Far Cry 3...

And I'm also awaiting the Dying Light DLC "The Following", as that appears to have much promise for playing an open world FPS via the style I so much enjoy.
One can only shake one's head in wonder as it relates to what the heck were the "People that Count" at Ubi thinking when it came to FC4 in the points mentioned above.
Oh well ...

Since I'm awaiting Ziggy's nightmare, and wrapped up his latest cut of the mod, thought I'd just see what Open World had to offer, once done with the prologue.
After the first two tutorials of Act 1, skipped off the reservation, and discovered some interesting game world situations:
no buzzer just outside Khilana Bazaar. That's cool. Had to climb tower 2 to have that buzzer spawn. That's fine.
Went to tower 10 for the P416/Z93 - only one RA sniper on guard. So no P416. However buzzers did spawn, even thu the tower was not climbed (which is how it is normally in any event).
Went north straight from tower 10 (on foot, via the river bed), and the only indication of the vanilla out-of-bounds warning was the red glowing/pulsing indicator in the upper middle screen, which shortly disappeared. Grabbed the in-game recurve bow and P416 at the first major traffic bridge building, and returned south, picking up a spawned buzzer not far from King's Bridge, for the return trip back to the reservation of Act 1.
An additional item, and based on Jeff's announcement, as well as the earlier posts in this thread dealing with the eagles, not sure what's it's worth at this point:
Arrow kills of eagles results in 1000 kp and 900 xp (i.e., 500 kp/450 xp per eagle) - to the best of my calculations - I state that because I don't display kp or xp on screen and just happened to note my kp/xp counters prior to spotting an eagle on the ground nearby. Whether it makes any difference, my game difficulty is HARD.
I have no memory whatsoever as to what you get in vanilla for an eagle kill, so don't know if the above is unique for Open World, or not. However, based on the various mods, have now made hunting eagles something to aim for, versus avoiding - even if the default spawning in OW is too frequent (since it's based on vanilla).
UPDATE: The GP brought down an eagle, and upon skinning it, it was 500/500 kp/xp - so have to assume my previous calculation was off by 50 xp.

Thanks for the report Mike! Interesting about the Eagles. Almost makes it worth their obnoxious attacks. Is Tower 10 normally randomized or does it usually always spawn 2 guards? Curious because the spawns seem based off vanilla now (except the buzzer not spawning most likely due to unlocking the valley before the player is required to take either Amita or Sabal's mission).

The word there, Jeff, is "almost" ...
Regarding tower 10 and the spawning of RA guards - in normal play (mod or vanilla) it's always been 4 (2 snipers) previously for me. So when finding only one sniper prior to completion of Act 1, was completely surprised. Perhaps others can comment regarding their experience at tower 10.
I have a save game that I can re-load to simply test getting to tower 10 again prior to Act 1 being completed.

Hi Guys Many thanks JR for releasing this mod - I have been having a really enjoyable time using it. On my last playthrough, just for a complete change, I got the buzzsaw quite early on in the game and blasted everything in Kyrat to pieces.

Hi! First of all, thank a lot for all the excellent work!! I tried your open world mod, and it worked perfectly until I visit a shop/trader! When and every time I do so, my game crashes to desktop! Any advice you could give me?
Once again, thanks a lot for all the excellent work you're doing!

I am currently using "FC4 Open World Mod with Easier Crafting v.1.10.1-26-v1-10-1 and I am only about 30% done. At this point, can I just switch to
FC4 Attachments Unlocked VERY HIGH Damage v1.10.2-9-v1-10-2 ? or FC4E Nightmare Mod 018-15-018 ?
I'm guessing NO about switching mid-stream, but wanted to double check.

Nothing too serious, but simply what can happen when using for quite some time a mod (or mods) that removes the default on-screen prompts ...
Using a run thru of OW to not only locate weapon spawning locations, but also which weapons spawn in-game from the specific story missions (as well as the various side missions). All's going find, and last night got to the City Of Pain mission ...
For the life of me, couldn't get into that damn truck, no matter the tactics employed. Since it's a mod, started to wonder, but disregarded any idea on that score simply due to what can't be done within FC4 regarding the coding.
Gave up, and fired up a mission walkthrough on YouTube to observe what I might be doing incorrectly - lo and behold -- it's a friggin' prompt I had completely forgotten about!! And with all the NPC chatter, wasn't hearing the low noise the game makes for an interaction prompt!!
Geezzz !!!!

akmark:
You can switch, in the sense that the game will not crash, but changing from Hardcore or Nightmare to any other mod, will totally mess up your XP account, meaning that changing down from HC or NM will give you a lot of skill points at once (as soon as you collect the nect XP) or will give you no skill points at all for a very long time, if you change up.

bontainer:
Wouldn't I be changing up (Casual to HC/NM)?
I get the idea though... XP is linked to progression, right?
Anyway, I better stick with what I have, at least for the first playthrough that I am doing now. It's good to know anyway and might help others reading here, thanks.

The "FC4 Open World Mod with Easier Crafting v.1.10.1-26-v1-10-1" applied to Far Cry 3 would be fantastic. Does it take much time? I am not a mod maker by any means, so I would not be able to do it myself. I would like to request an "FC3 Open World Mod," if possible?

Unfortunately that engine is very mod unfriendly so doing anything in Far Cry 3 or 4 is rather time consuming and difficult... although 3 is easier than 4 I suppose given all the mods that came out for it. I personally have too many other things going on to reinstall 3 and all of the tools and files it would take to do that myself, but I do know "Southern Island open at start" is a common feature of many, many mods on Nexus for Far Cry 3 so you may find something that fits the bill already exists.

Ok thanks... I completely understand and look forward to future projects. I decided to use "Ziggy's Mod." I used it back in 2013/2014, but apparently Ziggy's Mod has been updated to Aug-2015 with a Dec-2015 expected update.
