This went under when Yeti came out, so I will try to revive it.
Some thoughts about Ajays loadout:
I did a bit of thinking concerning what a sensible loadout for AJ would look like. I found this extremely interesting document:
thedonovan.com/archives/modernwarriorload/ModernWarriorsCombatLoadReport.pdf
In a nutshell:
The basic combat load of a soldier in Afghanistan was 25 to 30 kg. The marching load up to 40 kg and emergency marching load up to 60 kg.
Weapons and ammunition typically carried:
M9 Pistol 45 rounds, M4 Carbine 210 rounds, M203 Grenade Launcher 24 rounds, M249 Squad Automatic Weapon 800 rounds
The best comparism to what AJ should carry is the basic combat load. It will usually consist of a main weapon plus 6 reloads - thats Tier 2 ammo (ca. 6 kg) body armor (ca. 13 kg.), clothing and water, medic equipment plus maybe a few grenades etc.
Since AJs body armor tends to shred after only a few hits, lets downgrade it to a standard bulletproof vest (3 kg) saving 10 kg.
So lets assume AJ carries a loaded rifle with 6 mags weighing 6 kg. He has a handgun with ammo, 2.5 kg. A M79 with 24 grenades, another 8.5 kg. And a bow with 30 arrows, 4 kg. That is 21 kg weapons only. Its surely a bit awkward but manageable.
A bulletproof vest (3 kg). A basic loadout of 4 Mines, handgrenades and Molotov cocktails nets 8.5 kg, lets say its only AP mines not AV, then its 5 kg. The syringes are negligible, even the full 32 (8 health, 24 drugs) will not be more than 1 kg.
Now we have reached a realistic load of 30 kg, about what a soldier could carry into combat. Of course there is the slight question where to put the zippered pockets full of meat (another 2 to 3 kg) AND the famous ICARRYMYHOUSEONMYBACK rucksack.
www.rawskinsandhides.com/ tells me that a wet salted buffalo hide weighs about 34 kgs, a pig skin 5 kg, and deer skins 5 to 12 kg - anyone any questions? So we can only assume that AJ skins them, buries the skin (or whatever) and fetches it later, carrying them IS impossible - PERIOD! So let us assume he collects only trinkets, so a backpack with 30 units capacity (TIER 0) seems reasonable. Or we totally skip this, assume native carriers - and just imagine 30 to 50 faithful and fully laden Kyraties trotting behind AJ all the time, carrying his exploits - ok totally politically incorrect - but what the heck did the game designers think, if at all....
So my personal favourite for a realistic game loadout would look as follows:
Weapons : TIER 2, thats 1 handgun, 2 longarms - a bow could be optional then TIER 3.
Ammo : TIER 2, thats 6 reloads or 180 rounds for a rifle. If the army does its why not AJ.
GL Ammo : 24 rounds, again what the army does.
Things that go BOOM : TIER 0, 4 each.
Syringes : TIER 4
Meat : TIER 2
So much for my ideas, whats your opinion about a realistic loadout for a Hard(er)core Version?
