THIS TOPIC HAS BEEN EDITED on August 24th 2015!
If you want to restore the lip movement of the NPCs you have to do the following
1) Change your gamerprofile.xml to have SubtitlesLanguage="german" (or whatever language other than English)
2) Start game and go into settings and turn off subtitles
If you still have problems, start the game.
In the main menu Press F3, then klick on GENERAL
Choose Audio ENGLISH
Choose Subtitles DEUTSCH
Go back to the main menu
Load your game.
Klick GENERAL, change subtitles to any language you like (or to off). It is possible that the game crashes at this point. If this should happen got to VIDEO and set Window Mode to FULLSCREEN, that will solve the problem.
BTW (easter egg) : The people in Banapur have a lot to talk about. All NPCs that start to talk when you are near them, usually have several things to say. Just klick on them when they have finished their talk, continue this until there is no more prompt. Also the topic will change after each mission. It is really worth the time to visit them after each mission to hear what they have to say.
Please note that the rest of this thread concerns the former content.

Has anyone noticed any loss of functionality in the game when these two files are deleted? I have them deleted and cannot find anything that does not work.

It's because the game files are all contained in the patch.dat folder, Jimbo: many - or most of these files are also contained in the patch_hd.dat folder too, and when you/JR/Bontainer/Ubisoft/me make any changes, we run DuniaTools against the patch_hd.dat folder, we make our chages, then repack the folder. The game reads anything in this folder last - so your new data in that file is the data that is used. If you have those two (above) files in the patch_hd.dat folder - and delete both of them - then the game will simply read the main ones in the patch.dat folder. Those could be changed by anyone, too - but you would then not have a master file.

In fact the deletion of these two files reverts the game back to square one, so to say. The files in question (oasisstring) and a copy of it, were flawed from day one, meaning they were supplied by the original modders of FC4 without being worked over. The lispsynch problem was inherent in this first file, and we could do nothing to remedy that.
So, deleting these two files, deletes all text changes made to the game by modders, like different weapon names, no prompts, etc.
But concerning functionality, deleting those two files will do nothing negative at all.

Ok, great news. I am one step further on the way to solving this problem.
Please try the following and report which results you get.
Use a modified oasisstring and load the game main menu.
Change the language (I used german, but any other lanugage but english should do the trick).
Load your game.
Try to talk to someone (Banapur is the best place with all the talkative NPCs) and see if they move their lips.
Save game, return to main menu.
Change language back to english and reload.
Now lipsynch should be working again.

It Works!!
Though I had to play with the subtitles the first time. I need to be more precise, that's all. As Bontainer did - I went between Deutsch and English a couple of times and evrything works as he has said! I can't believe it!
Well Done, P.
You ARE DA MAN!

OK - partially from Bontainer's PM:
"Ok, I have a reproducable way.
Standard English settings.
Main Menu, F3 --> General: change subtitles only (I chose German because my native language is English, and that's what the oasis file uses)
Go into game - talk to someone, and see if their lips are moving. They should be.
If they are moving, hit [Esc], choose "General" and change Subtitles to "Off".
Now you should have your modified Oasis plus moving lips and English for the rest of the game.
You will have to hit F3 and select a subtitle language other than English each time you start a new game session, turning it off once the game has started and speech is ok.
Thank you Bontainer!

Yes, thats the correct way to do things.
Only thing, subtitles to "Off" might crash the game. I found that changing subtitles to "English" instead of "Off", will work better.
Sadly, it may all revert to the former status if you save and reload the game, but after all, we are just beginning to walk this new road...

I found she only crashed if it was in Windowed Mode, Bontainer - but didn't when in Full Screen (though I have to test that again to be 100% sure). I did a save without issue, too, si the only bug I see at this moment is at the start of the session. What a find, man! Pure genius! This opens up a whole new game. I dislike all the hand-holding prompting, but I do like these Kyrati folk talking to me; (my wife won't when she has her face in her computer) so games like your Nightmare and most of JR's series of mods can be quite complete now. It's amazing that only two days ago we were kicking ourselves because of all the work that went into getting rid of the prompts was suddenly nullified when JR found the switch in the GameProfile xml...

... and speaking of the Gamerprofile.Xml - one can force "german" to be the default Subtitle Language right there! - so it's on and visible when the game starts. You only need to turn it off in General. Lazy is good, Donkey!
SubtitlesLanguage="german"

Not pure genius, just pure luck.... and YES, lip movement is extremely important, its just like the Uncanny Valley theory says, that you can accept the "reality" of computer games up to a point, but after some degree of realism is reached, any deviation will lead to a strong form of revulsion.

Wow great find guys! This is amazing. Now we can have all the custom text we want without it messing up the game for the player.
So to recap is this the easiest / most reliable method:
1) Change your gamerprofile.xml to have SubtitlesLanguage="german" (or whatever language other than English)
2) Start game and go into settings and turn off subtitles
We should update the start of this thread with the best method (rather than suggesting people delete the custom oasis files)

Yup! That's the way to play. Just so there is no misunderstanding - this was totally Bontainer's find, JR. All I did was follow what he suggested, test it, change the method a little bit, and confer with him - re-do the instructions for my own docs, and here we are. He says he's not a genius - but genius is generally 30% smarts and 70% luck: in his case it's the other way around. Still genius. You and he can both make great mods and see "things" where others can't. Makes me just feel all weepy and sentimental.. sniff...sniff.. Got a hanky Willy?

Should probably delete the parts/posts that will confuse us. Maybe write a bit of it's history as reference, but I hate reading some instruction or other, only to find later - that it's all been changed.
