I have been using the MaxKeyboard Tenkeyless Blackbird keyboard with Cherry Brown switches and blue backlighting for over a year and half or so, and have not had one problem, not one light has burnt out. I have used it along with my six year old gson for approx 800 hours without a glitch. It is a good product, most backlit keyboards apparently lose at least a few lights in a year, but mine has not lost one. It is very well built, am very happy with it. They have excellent customer service and a loyal following. Dem good.
Also I have been using the PERIXX model MX-2000II mouse for over a year, three of them on different computers, with no problems either, and my mouse hand feels like it is sitting in a warm bucket of butter, heh. VERY smooth actions. Adjustable weights, adjustable colors with lots of LED lamps all over for those who like that stuff like me. You get other feets to change if you don't like the slickness of the originals. Cord is covered with cloth and fairly stiff. You can get black or red. AND I got mine on sale different times at the egg for like $25. Much better than MS sidewinder model. I haven't ever used a Razor mouse for very long, didn't like them, so YMMV. They just feel great of quality.

Thats an interesting keyboard, especially with the cherry switches. They are the best switches money can buy. When I designed keyboards (long ago - www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKC8ybawOqM), Cherry guaranteed 15 millon strokes, but in reality those switches are nearly indestructable, amzing works of engineering. cherryswitches.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Keymodule_MX_EN.pdfI use a logitech MX518 8-button mouse and a Sharkoon Skiller keyboard. Since I could never get used to WASD (my first FP game was Dungeonmaster (87), when noone thought of WASD and everyone used the direction switches. So my whole layout centers on them. I use RCtrl for jump, Rshift for running, DEL for reloading, END for throwing, Pgdown for healing, KP4 for 3rd weapon, KP1 for 1st weapon, KP2 for 2nd weapon and KP0 for camera (the other weapons a also on the KP). On the mouse I use buttons one and two as given, the MMB for interact, thumb button 1 for melee, thumb button 2 for crouching, and on the other buttons utility functions. I even have a belkin N52te, but could never get used to the fact that there are no buttons above the keypad.

Thanks for the share (as always!) Takeout. That's a mighty nice keyboard. I couldn't find it on Newegg, but it's available on Amazon ( www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GRHEXPS/) or directly from Max Keyboard ( www.maxkeyboard.com/max-keyboard-blackbird-tenkeyless-tkl-cherry-mx-backlit-mechanical-keyboard.html ). I don't have a spare $150.00 to plunk on a new keyboard, but if I did this would be worth looking at seriously especially with your recommendation. As to the mouse your recommendation may have come at an opportune time since my Logitech G700 is beginning to take a poop after a few years. It too has adjustable weights and DPI tuning etc, but the real problem is the cord (the mouse's "tail" sic). It's covered in a nice black protective cloth wrap. Unfortunately that's become worn through from endless rubbing against the edges of the desk and now the tails twisted and bent causing all kinds of frustrations. Not sure if you have the 2000II "B" model or if that's just the latest version, but it's on sale right now at New Egg for $25 ( www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2J20T19299 ). Interestingly Perixx seems to be selling it direct on Amazon for the same price ( www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0083H4NG4/). No idea if they are just price matching the sale or if it's always this low on Amazon's site. I may grab this bad boy while it's at $25 since my Logitech is likely to end up through the wall soon.

Update:
IF you register at the site for Maxkeyboards, there is a 20 to 30% discount on at least some items they sell with the code MEMORIAL2015. I also found an email within hours of this thread opening, wierd.... with the discount sale listed at the start with a discount code. The regular priced keyboards like the $150 Blackbird LED backlit tenkeyless is 20% off according to what I could decypher with the USA memorial day code MEMORIAL2015 , sale is on 23 to 25th this month. The regular price of the custom LED color lighted Blackbird tenkeyless backlit mechanical Cherry keyswitches is $199 regular (apparently never on sale), which is a bargain in my book considering I spent about 25 hours soldering, though, truthfully, I enjoyed the crap outta soldering again. But you can call out every key in a different color if you like, for that price, whatever blows your skirt up. Sorry if I said that the keyboard is available on Newegg, I bought from MaxKeyboard, I think they make them in Taiwan, but engineer and configure in Los Angeles, or somewhere down South.
By the way, keycaps are best I have seen, two materials, a whitish inner liner, and outer harder plastic. Very good idea. Transluscent are of course one material, could be a little bit less durable, but no probs so far, no scratches I have seen.
JR: I have used Logitech Gperixx 500 (kinda like G700, I think) and MX518 like Bontainer's mouse for many years before using the MS sidewinder and enjoyed them immensely, more than that MS Sidewinder. Those are good mice, if you like those, I do believe you will love the MX-2000II. My RED MX-2000II has the R suffix, so I think the B refers to black, since they only had Black before, I suppose it has been added because of need to differentiate. I just checked the box in the pile next to me (yeah, I got one of those mountains of boxes I just can't seem to throw away). I am pretty sure but if I find out otherwise, will post here within hour or two of now (11:45am PST Pacific Time USA california May 22,2015). The red model is a looker, dark metallic red with black trim borders. Worth a small premium, if required, maybe a coupla bucks, IF you like red. Actually, the Red is the R model, and it is $4.00 cheaper, at 21.99usd for now at Newegg.com lower on screen just checked at 12:45pm May22 PST.
As mentioned, the lighting can be modified to preferences in both the keyboard (brightness and flashing not color change without changing LED lamp) and mouse, with color changes in mouse with selection of about eight colors and breathing and all kinds of tricks and magic....... on the mouse without soldering, just use their software supplied with mouse. The standard 150usd keyboard comes with one color only, at least when I ordered mine over a year ago, but they might have like WASD in a different color perhaps. Funny thing, the colors are exactly the same hues, twixt the mouse and board, leading me to think the same manufacturer for both lamp suppliers to board and mouse.
My son-in-law gets my seconds, as they are still young (compared to me and Moses) and struggling like I did myself, so I try to get him bargains as I find them, and the MX518 was one of them, years ago, he still loves it but gets a kick outta my PERIXX. He is a little jealous of his son that plays here, but I keep his equiptment pretty up to date for being free mostly.
I use my left hand pinky at home on m key with forefinger on /, / is jump, m is aim, (<), and (>). are straf left and right, h thru l are weapons, ; is use, ' is reload, shift is sprint and hold breath, f is select molotov (fire), g is select grenade, space bar is reverse, right mouse is forward, left mouse is fire, wheel click is freelook, forward mouse is heal syringe, backward mouse is throw whatever selected, r is throw rock, right alt is melee or knife, z is mine, x is C4. o is map, there are others, but that is the main gist. I liked that setup since I could take a swig of beer whilst running and shooting, heh. My whole family uses that setup since I supply the stuff they use, and they like it also, but they have no choice, since they seldom have time to even play, much less configure, darn economy keeps them on overtime usually. But it is improving, at least with our family.
I use different colors for different types of keys, red is weapons, purple is weapon modifiers like aim, reload, nade launcher, orange is sound and mp3 player controls, green is movement keys, yellow is misc. like mp3 or sound or Fraps, I use transluscent keys from MaxKeyboard for the gaming keys, as they light up very bright (four levels adjustable with keys) at least on top forward area, yet still have key name on facing back side. I Cannot figure how MaxK uses the same resistance on each color lamp they sell, used to be you had to have a different reistance for each color range, so kudos to them, I just replace the lamp with a different color lamp they sell, and that is it, no problem, as I said above, NOT ONE PROBLEM IN A YEAR, not one led lamp out or keyswitch bad. ) I have had the keyboard apart for perhaps ten times so far, changing the lamps colors with a solder sucker iron, not a prob if you are a confident solderer, and know how to use heat sink clips and flux. Have had no reason to disassemble mouse, as it is fully configurable with the software program supplied, a one page deal, edit (is actually like four pages, my bad) me likey a lot.
Thanks, guys, for the links I failed to engage. I get a bit flustered with linking, the computers know me and conspire, heh.

Bontainer, today the big ones like on full sized boards Cherry switches advertise 50 million keystrokes, IIRC, though the smaller sized ones I think are still at 15M. Razor and others are making their own, I say good luck, competition is almost always good. But for 1.50usd apiece, I think they are after the RGB angle, wanting the rights to do that with their boards as well as Corsair or CoolerMaster, whichever has the deal with Cherry to RGB only their boards.
I will read and listen to that blip in a while, I have to install a dishwasher, so my body will be needing a rest from crouching and laying on linolium for a while, fascinating that you have designed so much, must have been fun, except for dealines, I know those are not fun.

WOW Bontainer, that is some genius engineering ideas in that Fanatec board. That board with the secondary controller on right is absolutely one of the most original ideas I have seen, and having the mouse pad onboard left side is great too, hope you could use different brands, PS2 is great platform! \\
I read it doesn't work on Win7/8, which is a downer, but it should be modernized if someone has the patent. I have wondered myself, how come God didn't give me three hands to game with, you know, for the gun turret while driving and shooting, heh, no disrespect intended, Lord, you laid my table amply. Glad I watched that instead of doing the dishwasher, now I can whistle while I work, heh, I like new ideas to think about.

The reason for the two coloured caps is in the production process. When a keyboard comes to the end of production it has only blank caps. The last step of the production chain is a laser station, that seems really close to magic.
The keyboards are running over a conveyor and pass under the laser . The laser cuts the black part away and the white part shines through. You only see a shimmer in the air where the laser hits dustmotes and the characters appear on the caps like magic. The whole process takes under 10 seconds per keyboard.
Since most countries have different keyboard layout (QWERTY in english language countries, QWERTZ in germany, AZERTY in France, etc.) each keyboard has to be made different. Since the coded part comes with the OS, all keyboards are technically identical, only the keys are different. This is how they are made.

Thank you very much. Fascinating to me. I would love to see that laser in action. I read science fiction and thought lasers were just developed for me to use as weapons. I got to work with them occasionally, always thought about the guy on a space ship replacing five foot fuses in the laser banks during a fantastic future war in fiction book, think it was by Harrison.
I would have thought that the entire keycap assemblege was done in batches all the same lettering on them, but makes sense that they assemble blanks and just engrave them as required by market forces, somebody knew what they were doing, kinda like that just in time skyscraper building they put in London, wow, that was some timing. I wish I was smart enough to understand everything. Especially women.................................................................... heh. Though I yam catching on now, that I am 67...
edit: Had wrong message I was editing, duh, anyhoo:
That Belkin N52 Nostromo looks like one I would have bought at one time or even now. I wonder why you did not enjoy it's actions. Looks like mechanical style switches, just the keycap being below the top thing? Always thought would be nice in games with turrets or swivel weapons, sorta easier than mouse or keyboard, perhaps driving too.

Here is a video of laser engraving: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cetF-zavFUsThe Nostromo is nearly perfect, but its hard to work against engrained habits. I use the keyrow above the D-pad, e.g. del, end, pgdown for reload, throw, heal, and thousands of hours of playing have so ingrained this feature that I have great difficulties adapting to something new. Seems there is really something to age making you inflexible... (even if I am only 55). It is programmable in 3 layers, the colours change depending on the layer you are using. It also has a programmable wheel and a microstick. The handpad has two positions for large and small hands.

Thanks a bunch, enjoyed that video, was pretty much out of loop when those improvements came about as I worked on one time things, prototyping, where it would be financially wrong to employ that level of creating. I was lucky enough to be on the front end of the curve with regard to tech improvements in my field for about 25 years, and happy to be at the back end (comparatively) of technology for the 12 years I spent as electrician, tho those were almost as rewarding, being only responsible for myself and not having to be responsible for other people's mistakes or ignorance.
I will employ an instrument I have found works exceedingly well, "Trusting in a friend's opinion who has similar taste and nothing to gain in his advice". I am sure I would have the same or more pronounced problem with the Belkin N52, as interesting as it seems. So thank you for saving me time and money.
My Gson and Gdaughter can listen to a song in French (I think) like "Jamaican Farewell" aka "Kingston Town" by Nana Mouskouri, and sing along after hearing it only four times, not even knowing what they are singing other than having heard Harry Belafonte's hit version (US) in English. Good tune, by the way, her voice is hauntingly beautiful, especially the high parts. I kinda love her now, oh, well, add her to my list. Took me 40 times just to have 1/2 the words correct, as near as I can tell... heh. Dem youngsters soak up ideas like sponges whilst I yam more and more like teflon.

Just wanted to circle back to this post and say my MX-2000II came the other day and I set it up. I'm really liking the feel of it so far (I went ahead and put all the weights in because I like a nice "heavy" mouse when I'm playing - it helps me feel like I have more minute control. Feels just right so far). The colored lights in it are a hoot and you can configure them in the software to be whatever color you want or to pulse different colors, etc. Pretty cool. You can set it up for multiple DPI, have different game profiles, record macros, remap the buttons, etc. etc. Stuff I probably won't ever even need or use, but hey too much is never enough. My only "complaint" is the thumb buttons are laid out slightly different to my last mouse (mine were in a line - this is one at your thumb tip with two more just above side by side directly above your resting thumb) so I am still getting used to the placement, but that's just a personal preference thing. So far I am very impressed at how many features this has for $25.00 Definitely a great replacement investment. Thanks for the heads up

Glad you like it, the more you use it, the better it seems especially when you pick another model up and feel the difference twixt them. I use two in different colors side by side on my one pad, one for big machine gaming and cruising, and other for email and research, keep them different colors helps keep them seperate. I too like a heavy mouse. I think they are a German company. I don't use all of the options either yet, prob never will, heh.
