It has been TOO quiet hasn't it? I'm thinking of reopening registration to get some new blood in here. Stir things up. Of course if we get hit with more auto spam then I'll have to clamp it back down. Interesting video. I'm not too sussed about FC5 and any "statement" it's trying to make or not. What I am happy about is a chance to return to the game with a fresh coat of paint and an automatic weapon. Primal was fine for what it was, but I much prefer a modern day setting. Generally everything I seen so far on 5 is an overall improvement on the existing mold. It's nothing earth shattering or different, but I think it combines some of the best elements (lighting, textures, mechanics, etc) from the last 4 games or so and that makes it fine for me. Even if you don't like the setup for this installment I think the one thing you should consider is the possibility of the map editor. Since this entry is a modern day American setting you will have a lot potential in creating more varied maps. FC3 was distinctly tropical and map makers had to work REALLY hard to break that feel (some did too... very clever folks out there indeed) and FC4 had such a heavy indian / tibetan feel that it was even more creatively restricting. FC5 sure seems like the perfect opportunity to have an editor chock full of very "generic" fits anywhere bits and pieces that designers will be able to really go hog wild and create interesting and unique maps. At least I certainly hope so. As far as single player is concerned I'm perfectly fine with what they've shown us so far. It's not the most exciting setting (not by a long shot) and a lot of the humor seems really, really low brow (the whole collecting bull testicles quest... I mean ok yuck yuck heehaw, it's... kinda funny... but honestly is this the best you guys can come up with?) Ultimately though we will just have to see. I'm just happy to get back to shooting bad guys in the face PS - For ME personally I'm kinda sad there will be no towers to climb. I mean in FC4 with the intro of the gyrocopter they were really optional anyways for those that hated them so much. To me it was a different kind of puzzle like activity. Also I actually hope they DON'T gimp hunting. I know it makes no sense to kill 5 bear for a freaking wallet, but I think hunting (especially with the bow) is an important part of the franchise. I guess I'm saying if you start stripping stuff away because players are bitching about it (towers, hunting, collectables, etc) then you better have a suitable replacement. And no I don't think a FISHING minigame is a suitable replacement for hunting. Bring back Poker, Knife Throwing, and all the other side activities. Give us lots of options besides just base clearing. I dunno. That's my take anyways.

For me it's going to be the tactics a new map allows for - as a solo single player FPS, nothing more. The story (its background) itself makes no sense whatsoever, so that ain't a selling point for me. Those NPCs/for hires better have an option to remain in their default locations. Okay, will rescue the dog, but it's going to remain in the kennel, where its safe ...

I wonder if there'll be more to the minigames part of the game. Sure, there's the fishing, but does the fishing actually offer something to gain other than having a fish with 'better' randomly generated attributes on a high score board? I think that Witcher 3 showed with Gwent that when implemented properly, some people can spend most their time playing only a small subsection of a game, if it's interesting enough. For me, Far Cry could just as well offer minigames that reuse the already present (physics) engine. Racing shouldn't be hard to pull off. If they added more variety in their 'tracks', possibly even randomly generating them through the world or allowing map makers to make them, the game could even attract people who like racing games over FPSes. BTW, I noticed some arcade cabinets in the game. I wonder if those will allow players to play classic arcade games, or perhaps even Ubisoft games like "Trials of the Blood Dragon". Speaking of Blood Dragon, if you pause the video at youtu.be/kXvA0zaz-Z4?t=3640 , there's a book called "Blood Dragon 2: Darling Revengeance". Would that be a hint?

Probably just a nod, but a Blood Dragon 2 would be a good win for them as a DLC / small release such as the original was. Even if it was terrible they could rake in that cash. We still really haven't heard what this entries Blood Dragon / Valley of the Yeti will be. Mumu's Fashion Week is a nod too. Mumu (usually spelled Mummu) was the internal code name for Mr. Chiffon from Far Cry 4 (the guy that sends you on the hunts to tailor special gear pieces). Like a lot of characters his name was probably changed late in development. EDIT: Oh derp his entry does actually say "Mumu Chiffon" so that is his first name. Also another pretty obvious one is Oros: A Metholic Paradise. Oros was the name of the continent / play area of Far Cry Primal and various characters said it's name several times in their made up language throughout the game. These I don't get (if they are inside jokes...): The REAL Makentits Michou Barbmoutch Popoche and the Big Market Maybe they are developer names?

I started a new play through on FC 4 a couple nights ago; as a mental warm up for 5. I'd forgotten about Mumu Chiffon! There's a thread on the FC 5 General Forum about which characters players would like to see in 5; Hurk seemed to be the #1 pick though I'd shoot his hillbilly *** on sight. I always like the Willis character, but my pick would be the Bible Thumping gun running Longinus ---perfect fit for FC 5 and the redneck culters of Hope County! "What Kind of Gun Would Jesus Use"; indeed! Speaking of things to do in FC 5. Has anyone else caught the YT video of the "alien crop circle" side mission; with the killer turkeys (I couldn't find it again for a link to it)? Excellent demonstration of your Law Enforcement Character using proper "Escalation of Force" per his Department's Use of Force Continuum! Makes it easy to write a "clean it up" [and he'll need to because in the end he resorted to a belt fed machine gun to get the turkeys off him! ] incident report afterwards. Mini games??!! Xtreme Croquet, or perhaps hamster tossing (No Hamsters Were Harmed in the Making of This Game!) for me! Stupid Things to Do in FC 5: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nd6mQPwQaN4

Another video highlighting some things that other videos haven't mentioned (at least that I saw): www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BQKcdfZNMAGood and Bad. No towers, but now there are underground bunker like areas called Prepper Stashes with puzzle like elements (traps, etc). Seems like a cool concept. We'll see how it plays out. The game is RIDICULOUSLY colorful. I'm not liking the all the crazy weapon color schemes. I can't find the other video showing a lot of the nutty paint jobs and some of the menu elements which... again... not really digging this vibe. Basically every weapon looks over the top neon colored nonsense. Even the melee weapons. The shovel had a smiley face on it and some oar in the menu called the "whack" had a giant cartoon WHACK written on it. It's just... all very... looney tunes. Also which might make Mike and others happy - it looks like you can put a bullet in your friend for hires head. Dunno if they "warp teleport" to you if get far away (like they do in Ghost recon Wildlands), but it looks like they need to be revived... so if they get annoying you can at least put them down. What won't make anyone happy is there are a LOT of bullet sponge enemies. Seeing some more game play now I've seen players dumping clips into cultists who aren't wearing armor (or just like a leather apron or something). It looks a lot like the stupid Division thugs who can take a million bullets in a hoodie The number one thing I want to change ASAP is the HORRIBLE new red and blue wall hack shader. Man it's worse than ever and it's wayyy too bright and gaudy. Blech. Than hopefully some hardcore weapon tuning and some proper camos. Well if we can crack the files of course.

Wow! Maybe they'll have wildly colored monster trucks and an add on "Predator Mission"! Oh wait.....................that's already been done; OK.........................that was a bad example! LOL that comparison is not without merit. But it does bring up another thing I'm quite concerned about... Ghost Recon Wildlands has recently added purchasable supply drops/battle crates/whatever you want to call them. This has been consistent with most of their games. With all of the shown "prestige" camos for weapons and vehicles I think we are elevating to a new tier of paid and exclusive content. Which is something I had to walk on eggshells around in Far Cry 4 with the various pre-release weapons and Far Cry 3's multiplayer. I'm worried that Far Cry 5 will have several elements which will make it difficult or even impossible to mod simply because of Ubi wanting to protect "loot crate" style purchases directly from them. GTA went through a short period where they banned mods until players went up in arms about it. These persistent online games with microtransactions are making modding extremely difficult and putting modders at odds with developers And as we know Ubi has NEVER embraced or endorsed the modding scene.
