hmmm ....
So you aren't going to be limited to sharp sticks and a bow in the primal world of Ubi's Far Cry.
At least you discover the world by actually exploring.

Meh. I hate to say this really took a lot of excitement away for me. While I look forward to a new area to play in and a focus on bow play and the like I think quite a lot of this seemed very uninspired to me. Not sure what I was expecting, but this wasn't exactly it. Either make a realistic hard survival experience or a kooky casual over-the-top fantasy - don't try to tread the middle.
Dholes, leopards, boar, elephants (oops I mean baby mammoths), a giant bird that swoops down and steals your prey (wanna bet this is f%^king EEEEAGLES all over again?). Come on Ubi. You can do better. No. You SHOULD do better. You are removing all the guns, vehicles, buildings and modern trappings. You should make the natural world shine. All new flora and fauna.
Let's take away climbing puzzles and give you fast travel. There's no guns, but the giant owl can drop fire bombs (wtf?) and mark guys for you so you can see them through the walls. Oh and don't worry we've made sure the bodies flash when they die and marked them on your minimap (because a minimap makes complete sense in the preshistoric survival context). Sigh.
Maybe I'm expecting too much change out of them. Maybe the games I've been playing have spoiled me a bit since it's been easier (relatively) to mod them and change them to be more fun for me. I dunno guys. I really love Far Cry, but this entry is really bizarre to me. No matter what the company line is - this feels like elaborate DLC or Blood Dragon standalone NOT our full fledged FC game we've come to expect.
OK back to Fallout for now. Hopefully my grumpy demeanor changes by the time it comes out. Initially I was a bit stoked about the various possibilities for this entry in the franchise, but now I just can't see myself paying full $60 for it. No way. No freaking way.

My very first impression: Looks like FC4 with slightly changed animals, and even the Eeeeagles are the same. That could have been anywhere in Kyrat...
Later: No, this will be one of the games I will buy at a Steam sale when its in the 10$ range.
1. Its nothing else but a recycling of FC4, the graphic department did most of the work.
2. The "Beastmaster" makes primal Ajay into a superhero again, what I saw did not look very challenging.
3. If they want to sell another DLC they could at least name and price it accordingly.

I watched a few other 10 minute gameplays (guess they are letting gamespot and others have a limited timed demo with it). Can't say I was greatly impressed although some additional pros and cons: 1) You can pet tame animals and they give you big eyed smiles like some kind of kids Petz simulator. It's super ridiculous looking seeing a sabre tooth tiger all googly eyed fawning over you as you rub his head. The only thing missing was floating hearts streaming up out of his head as he grins and purrs at you. It completely kills any kind of seriousness. Even Dogmeat has a more realistic reaction to the PC. 2) Darker nights and caves. This was big for me. I actually was pretty impressed by the fact that they made dark areas. They are not pitch black (far from it), but definitely much better than the last 3 titles. 3) You can light your arrow or spear from fire sources (even your flaming pet when he catches on fire LOL which was actually kind of cool) and use it as a torch for exploring the dark. It appropriately sizzles and goes out instantly when you go into water which is cool. Those elements seem so much better to me in this game. 4) The whole "feed meat to your pet for health" instead of actual hunger is not surprising, but disappointing. Didn't see anything remotely resembling hunger (or of course thirst or fatigue) 5) Stupid "twist your wrist to heal" animations again. Hopefully placeholders, but I doubt it. One thing I noticed is skinning, looting and healing are significantly faster. They only take a brief second. Have mixed feelings on that. At least they acknowledge that search animations get tedious, but the animations don't really add to the immersion. They are more like the "feather pick" animation we switch to after getting bored by the defaults. Would rather see a system of normal animations with the ability to unlock faster ones (and the option to turn of animations completely if desired). 6) Collecting wood and stone great. Low amount of pelts required for upgrades (3 - 4) not so great. At least you multiple of the wood, stone, etc. and it appears you can upgrade the stuff for other members of your tribe. This game probably has the most need for modding out casual elements, but it will probably be he hardest to do anything with. I have to admit currently I don't have the desire to try another big project for this. We know Ubi doesn't really like modding so I'm sure it will be even more tedious than before. Dunno about this entry. Just not feeling it. Sad honestly...

Comments I agree with; not what I had hoped to see from Ubisoft. It's like they extended the silly "add-on" of Shangri-La we had to put up within FC4. My first impression of you launching "your" owl to spot (and bomb no less!!) for you was Far Cry just met Ghost Recon Future Soldier ... Back to the Wastelands ...

Totally agree, very uninspiring. I remember that I couldn't wait to get Farcry 4, but I will not be in any rush to buy Farcry Primal.

I Don´t Want To Judge A Game To Fast Or Get Hyped To Fast As I´ve Learn´t From Those Mistakes in The Past.
Concerning The Video, It Is A Demo, Showcasing The Main Core Features Of The Game, Like They Said; It Will Take Time To Reach The Point Of Actual Big Game Hunts/Taming, Due To Tougher Animals ( Aka. Mammoth, Sabretooth, Jaguar) So I Don´t Think It´s That Easy.
Taming Does Seems Skill Based, Judging By The Demo-Videos; Skill Menu, Most Seems Pre-unlocked, For Obvious Reasons.
I Like Many Parts And Features Shown, Sure Some Are Silly. But,. Then I Also Remember From Where I Watched This xD.... A Modding Forum, Imagen The Modding Fun-Capabilities, It Could Have, As Modding, DOES Start To Get More Attention/Notice, From Makers These Days.
+Pros Of The Video, That I Like Actual Exploring Having To Travel, Not Using Vehicles Simply Because They Are There, Remember The Good Old FC1 Days, Not Having Bunch Of Cars All Over The Place, Good Times Different Forms Of Weapons, Very Nice To Get Something New Animals Seems To Be The Same, Also, Added Amount Of Animals To Both Hunt And Tame The Owl Is A Nice Touch, As You Can Use It, As You Wich Aka. Not In outpost, But, To Find Animals While Hunting Insteed Pets, Having Different Useful Areas, Tank, Stealth, Damage, God Knows What others There Are Story Seems To Somehow Be Connected, First Shangri-La, Then This? Adds Expectations; Demons?, FC1 Experiments First DNA Strains? Awesome Graphics
-Cons Pretty Much Copy -> Paste, Reused Materials, Some Tweaked A Bit Bombing Owl Lootable Corpse Markers Foot-Steps-Markers Radar HUGE HUD INFO Confussing Skill System, At First Glance Traps Seems Over-Powered, Could Be For ShowCase Purposes Tho Spoken language, Hope It´s Not Permanent Use Of Ancient-tongue
Anyways, Looking At This List, It Seems Like They Are Rather Minor Things, I´l Just Simply Try The Game, And/Or Check Mod Reports.
If It Becomes Moddable, Then We Can Only Imagen What Might Could Be Done, As Certain Things Have Always Been The Same. The Cons Area Has Things, That In Most Other FC Games Could Be Modded, I´d Say, I´d Love To Do Just That!
By The Way, Remember FC3 And FC4 Both Had A Lot Of Gameplay Options And Hud Options ( Previous Games Had Too, But, Not As Extensive ), I Can´t Simply Imagen They Would Just Disregard Those Features In This Game.
