The mod will just be a data3.pak file that you drop into your directory. No fuss, no muss. Sort of like Far Cry's patch_hd.dat file. Apparently data3 is just an empty file they left for modders (or future expansion) The best part of modding this game is the data.pak files are actually just renamed .zip files so you can open these with whatever .zip client you like (or Windows built in .zip support). Even better is all the files are plain.txt files that you can open in a text editor like Notepad++ Hands down this has to be the most straightforward game I have seen for modding. I confess I haven't touched anything with the graphics rendering / lighting. If I can find that stuff (and understand it) I'll try, but I'm mostly focusing on new enemies, weapons, crafting, survival, etc. etc. that sort of thing.

Willyr, if I might interject, I experienced a lot of glare and bright gamma areas when using the potion "Night Vision" (?) as it will make the slightly brighter areas seem to be blindingly white. This happens when you use the ultraviolet or regular flashlight while under the influence of named potion or just enter an area of artificial lighting or just flames. Just in case that hadn't been already explored by you.
This also happens when coming back to life in a safe area that has artificial lighting, after dying in game play, while still under the influence of "night vision" potion, as it's affects will continue into next spawn life until ending on ring showing expiration rate, next to health score and medkits remaining, even tho you are respawned. Reminded me of early years of my career working in night vision repair, and the reverse feedback bias circuitry developed to counter this affect.
UBI seems to do a good job of depicting the eye's iris dilating and constricting, which effects the depth of field, as well as magenta purple (?) agent that floods the retina area to increase sensitivity. Excuse me if you are well informed in this regard and are talking of something entirely different.

More delays on my DL mod. The company I work for being bought out by a multi-national startup has been... interesting... to say the least (like not getting paid this Friday due to exchange rates and bank screw ups grrr). Anyway I'm done adding new zombie monsters for now (finally!) and onto adding new loot and crafting items. Lots of new things you'll be able to find in cabinets and fridges This goes hand in hand with changing some of the blueprints to be more "realistic" (as realistic as a zombie apocalypse gets I suppose ). Being as Fallout is right on the horizon I'm trying to push through and finish this up because I know that FO4 will distract me (and half the world) for along time.

JRavens, GOOD LUCK on your new occupational adventure. Best of hopes for success and fortune.
I just wanted to first of all thank you for your efforts so far in DL, it will be welcome to find something new looking out of those cabinets and toolsets. I would like to introduce an idea new to me, but perhaps already covered by someone else somewhere, that maybe the code somewhere has a method to maybe retrieve some of the weapons and devices that the newly zombified runners have on them that I can see perfectly but cannot touch or use after neutralizing them. Just an idea if possible to add something like grenades, throwing stars, knives, food, or provisions of any type to the loot taken from special zombies.
This is something that perhaps could happen in six months or a year's time. I am comfortably happy with whatever you were able to manifest in modifying the game so far. Looking forward to more from you in any case, in the future when time allows.

Thanks T! What is that saying "May you live in interesting times"... well these are interesting times indeed. I honestly scared at the stuff we will be doing. I've never been a "suit and tie" kind of guy. In a few years I might be flying around the globe helping to secure multimillion dollar deals!? Crazy. I'm excited, but yeah pretty clearly freaked out So Fallout... "fell out" into my hot little hands before I could finish the DL mod (no shock there) LOL. So now I'm preoccupied with IT (again no shock), but my plan is to let Fallout die down a bit and then go back to DL and finish the mod up to give folks something to tide themselves with over the new year while they wait for the Following DLC to come out (which will probably break the mod... that's usually my luck LOL). I was able to get a fair amount of stuff done - new suits, new zombies, new items, etc. but it's all not finished so I would hate to release it in a half done state. Unlike Far Cry I wanted to do one big "blam here it all is!" instead of a trickle of endless updates. Makes it easier on me and other players. When I go back to it I will look at the look at the runners. I guess you are meaning the infecteds which have the runner outfits. They actually pull from a pool for their looks and some have the heavier looking gear - straps, ammo pouches and the like. It would be pretty simple (I think) to add some special stuff to them. I've already adjusted some of the low level zombies to give less cash (pocket change) and to have more common junk items on them. Should be able to give those infected throwing weapons, grenades, and provisions. Good idea actually Not sure about the survival elements. I figured out how to apply buffs to items - i.e. make food and drink that gives the character abilities so I can give buffs for food. Example: I have a can of cola that gives a 90 second stamina buff. But I can't figure out how to impose penalties for hunger, thirst or being tired. I can do the opposite and give a BONUS for eating and drinking (possibly even sleeping although I think technically that already applies some kind of well rested benefit)... but don't think I can force hunger/thirst/tiredness onto a character. One thing I contemplated was lowering all the characters stats significantly and then having food and drink provide a buff that negates the penalty. So essentially Crane would always be hungry, thirsty and/or tired and then eating/drinking/resting would give you slowly depleting circles at the top showing you fed, quenched and rested. You could (in theory) increase these circles back up by eating more food and drink, etc. There may be unforeseen issues with that idea though so I hadn't tested it or anything. That was a kind of a more involved chunk of the mod I was leaving to the very end since it will require a lot of tinkering and testing. The other idea which definitely would work is to just give Crane a minor bonus for being "well fed", "reseted", "quenched" etc. when he eats/drinks/sleeps. In this way though it's not really survival but just a boost. If for some reason (my job etc) I can't get the mod until six months or a year I would most likely just wait until the Following came out so I could make sure everything was compatible. That's not really something I want to do though. Too bad I couldn't mod games for a living. I would love to have enough hours in the day... hell in the week to keep all of my mods updated and working. Learned the hard way about spreading myself too thin.

thks TO. i havn't tried the potions as yet , just so hard to concentrate on 1 thing at a time with so much zombie bashing to do, lol i have got thru the museium section yesterday with all the distoration effects and haveing the filmgrain on ,man that just killed my eyes, finaly turned it off and it was a little bit better, i just downloaded the dying light manager on nexus to eliminate the lens flare and dust particles that made the game better for me visualy, if you havent tried it give it a shot, my main gripe so far is the death penalty-jeez all those points up in smoke, and loseing everything after both Rias missions once was enough 1 other thing was the bioncular side mission i think, is the bionocular actualy aviadable in the game, that would be nice also been mucking about a little in the Data0 file and was able to increase the mag qty and max ammo just for kicks JR good luck also on the new job,be sure to keep a slush fund for emergency $, look forward to your Dl mod when it is ready thks again

JRavens, super that you have a chance to take life by the horns. Is nice to have a chance once in a while, not to say I haven't screwed up my life almost entirely at times, Thank God for second chances. But can relate, as I had a humdrum existence (my outlook, others thought great) for around 15 years, was sufficient for raising family, but really in the back of my head, I was wanting a little tiny bit of change in the way of some adventure and bolstering my super ego (your outlook on other's outlook of you). I got it and took hold and it paid extreme dividends in my mental health, I got to "Be Somebody" as the saying goes, but of course not in a huge way, but huge for me. Just raising your family to be kind and giving with love is ample aims.
I also learned that not being directly honest goes a long way in that area as well. I messed up bad and effected another's career path much to my pain, just by being honest and forthcoming. Ya wouldn't think that would screw up things so much, but it can, it is all in the timing and placing, I found. Took me years to get over that one, and really only got over it by screwing up more another time, heh. It is all relative, to thine own self be true.
As far as DL goes, whenever you feel you have the drive to do so, and investigate the new ideas, I was a thinking in my little hardware driven, non-coding brain that perhaps the system of durability, damage, and handling options of weapons and how they are projected thru the game could perhaps give some insight in how to adapt the game into the hunger and thirst and sleep divisions of the players condition. Just a simplistic view I know, my way of trying to help.
I yam ready I think to do the last part of the game where you go up the Raiz's tower being built and keep him from leaving as I understand it. I have accumulated about 6.5 million buckeroos and found that a lot of the previously generous trunks and vans are now yielding less and less weapons. Could be I have prob 300 mostly orange level of them in my little darn weekend bag, or that I have spent WAY too long in this portion of the game.... could be. Since switching to hard difficulty, I die almost every night or so, and am taken by surprise when I am killed by a swipe from a woman in a dress cause I didn't heal properly (takes so gosh-darn long, HEH). Was used to roaming with impunity, just carousing around the town at will, like spiderman on steroids, tossing nades and molotovs, now cringing in corner peeing in pants, heh, jk, but big difference with higher difficulty setting, and well taken by me, made the game new again.
Willyr, I will look into that DL manager, sounds kewl, I would like some control. At one time I could handle the changes myself I wanted back in like BattleField 1 and 2, like with scripts and such, but get lost in the software woods. Thanks for the lead. I always turn off the filmgrain, just don't understand why they would want to incorporate something that was a handicap back in the film days. Also looking forward to any mods you could divine from what you see in the game. I always like to make changes in things too, it is what drives us I think, make it different, like customizing cars back in the ole days which you might not have experienced but were similar. I yam ancient and have spider webs in brain in areas most keep clean but do occasionaly come up with a pearl once in a while. Gonna look into that DL's game data which I haven't done yet, could be I have enough confidence to do some changes on my own if they are as straightforward as our Guru says with text files. I do well with Lego Blocks, so maybeeeeeeeee.
We have Thanksgiving holiday here in USA this week, eat turkey, cranberries, yams, and mashed potatoes and burp and thank God for not taking justice out on us. I have had the two regular middle Gkids ALL DAY 12 hours, So far this week, so am happy in that regard. Life is good right now for me. Bless all of yall.
EDIT: Gonna check out prices on those Xeon that are similar to the i7s in that they have hyperthreading of their four cores and a little more L3 memory cache, plus no graphics guts to raise temps, there is that 123V3 somewhere out there with the right price waiting on me to jump on it if my bills allow it. They are not overclockable in that K way, in case you like speed more than threads, in that case the i5 K models might do better for you.

To all,
Have raised 7,500,000 bucks so far in cash assets, took three times as long on hard leveling that I started at about 6mil. tip of week: Can raise money faster by waiting to buy only best weapons like Premium Katana Gold or Skull Matchete Gold with 60 durability in stores, as most others can eventually be found in trunks, tho have been using purple quite a bit with high damage for crowds. Hundreds of weapons. Am going to go up the last tower deal called escape or something like that soon as I get strength back from holiday shopping. Changing to Hard level made a big difference on how fast I can raise money, and actually increased immersion to a double degree at least. Thanks all, especially Mike, for the tip on how to upgrade to hard level. Happy Holidays to all.

Willyr, you mentioned losing all your stuff when dying in game in some missions. In those I have encountered so far, when I lose my stuff, it is usually nearby on completion of mission, tho I have got stuck amassing a tremendous armoury and bank account, just got into it big time, heh. I will have to eventually go up the Rias building and attempt to prevent his escape, am about 93% complete, the game says. I wanted to reach 8 million dollars, but it is slow when I keep spending everytime I see a highest end Katana or Skull Machete at 1399 damage to buy from a trader. I yam sucker for those hucksters, they say stuff like "anytime is a good time to trade" and other irresitable spiels. It ain't fair...... heh. One guy even told me his stuff was the best in town, wow, can you imagine, I almost bought everything he had.......... Jimminy Crickets!!

saw this today at Tom's Hardware, think it is what Ravens has been talking about earlier, seems kewl, would be nice if the 3,000 zombies I killed after reaching full skill levels would count for something, heh, but it was fun: www.tomshardware.com/news/dying-light-legendary-levels-highlightIt is coming in Feb 2016 with new levels and those vehicles and big areas. Well, clicky ain't working, it is there on todays date in list of news on front page.

Talking to myself again, heh.
SPOILER ALERT!!!
I have been stuck at the point right before you encounter the shooting zombies in the Rais Tower with the big flag. I converted to the higher difficulty from the middle at $6m, and now am at around $9.7M. Gonna complete at $10m, Anyhoo, I played about 7 hours without the grapple, forgot where you get it at the quatermaster. Well, during that 6 hours, I found 4 of the highly prized Gold triple double upgrade kits for swords or hammers or bats. That gives you the maximum value. I only found 3 in the previous 150 hours approx. SO! if you want the gold kits, try dropping the grapple to see if it is just coincidence, or a rule. Could just be a coincidence.

Jimminey Crickets! Spoiler Alert!! Anyhoo, can't get more at least after first time with losing grapple hook, didn't get me more gold kits, I was wrong, just coincidence.
There is a blue shield guy in old town if you want an easy run to recondition about 3 or 4 weapons, he is on left EDIT(RIGHT SIDE OF MAP OLD TOWN) near square on side along shore parkway near large square area along boardwalk interface and yurt thing, he is sitting down facing ocean, near yurt. Is easiest out of 5 I have done. Just run thru town, protect him at all costs, have med kits and blades with you. Choose recondition weapons, can do maybe four probably three, hard to count when soing that. And you can get a free weapon and firecrackers or whatever.
EDIT Seems that the number of weapons you can convert to full reconditioned is variable according to how hard the quest is with blue shield guy? I did three with him last time. Also, each weapon can only be reconditioned like this once I think.
